"Pompeius, after having finished the war against Mithridates, when he went to call at the house of Poseidonios, the famous teacher of philosophy, forbade the lictor to knock at the door, as was the usual custom, and he, to whom both the eastern and the western world had yielded submission, ordered the fasces to be lowered before the door of science."
Pliny the Elder, Naturalis Historia, 7, 112
I think Pyrrhus will be in the game, before his death at Argos.
Hint: Epirus controls Thessaly, which they would not own after Pyrrhus' death (the Antigonids would take it).
RGA is actually correct.
Carthage would have been the only power allied with Rome at (or near) the startdate, as both were at odds with the various Hellenistic factions in the west (Epirus, Syracuse, etc.).
Rome's alliance with Pergamon would not come till later.
Sparta? Frankly I had no idea Rome became allied with Sparta until I read it in the faction description. Sparta was so weak by the Roman invasion of Greece proper that it was really irreverent.
No, they actually considered supporting Carthage as Syracusan citizens of a certain political persuasion at the time saw the writing on the wall when it came to Roman power. Once Carthage was subdued Rome would get around to capturing Syracuse's corner of Sicily it was believed. Still, Syracuse did not get a chance to act. All Syracuse's anti-Roman partisans managed to do is scare the SPQR at the height of the Second Punic War and bring down an attack upon themselves that the Romans could paint as pre-emptive.Originally Posted by HusKatten

"The fact is that every war suffers a kind of progressive degradation with every month that it continues, because such things as individual liberty and a truthful press are not compatible with military efficency."
-George Orwell, in Homage to Catalonia, 1938.
Rome's allies? Carthage and the southern Italian cities. By the First Macedonian war, somewhat out of timeline Elis,Sparta, and Aeotilia in Greece.

"A true man hates no one."-Napoleon Bonaparte
Weren't the Spartans allied with Carthage in the Punic war together with the Macedonians. Or was that just Xanthippos?
Of course that was a bit later on than the campaign start.
I really hope that all the key historical figures make appearances. Playing as Rome around 70 BC, Gaius Julius pops up as a general. Playing as Pontus around 120 BC, Mithridates shows up, etc.
Probably won't happen though.
and rhodos?or is that in a later period?
i think he will be,is a nice faction to play my guess
elephants and greek style army between rome and macadonia,
real challenge 2 get more than a pyyric victory![]()
What a shame that you have to pre-order a game that looks far from completed to get greek states cultures!!! this is so wrong, it's just terrible.
Please give me reputation points thank you
and rhodian navy in support against macadonia, but wheir punished for being bad allys,in later period rhodos whas of no use because rome made delos their new trade hub in greece.
It seems to me that to pull off a historic recreation of Rome will just be too taxing on my armies and with the army limit I just won't be able to house that many armies without taking other non-hisctorical regions kinda sucks but oh well as long as I have historically correct allies I guess it's okay.

Considering the Greek Factions DLC has Epirus, it seems likely that Pyrrhus will appear on the Campaign map. He might even appear in the historical battles section. Don't forget the battle of Asculum and the siege of Sparta being included in the original Rome. CA are definitely familiar with him.
One pic show Egypt in 272B.C but the problem is they have more land in that pic than they should have at turn 1
I think the game start around 278 B.C is a safe bet![]()
Empire II and Medieval III pls
i thought they confirmed the start date to be 270 B.C.E. that's what i heard, but i have no 100% answer.
