    Default Mercenary Agents

So I'm not very agent focused when I play Total war games; Most of the time I spend on building structures and creating armies and completely ignore the whole agent aspect of the game. Mainly because when I'm taking turns I pretty much focus on main priorities and forget about agents and navies unless my sea trade is under attack. But sooner or later I always come across high level agents that reek havoc on my faction. Right now in my shogun campaign I'm coming up against an assassin that is killing all my low level generals, and I have no agents high enough to do anything about it. So why not add in Mercenary agents you can hire on the spot like you can for your armies. I'm sure their were spies and assassins for hire back in those day, and since your army can't go on the hunt for any agents it would solve some of my damn problems. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets pissed at a high level enemy agent being more annoying then the "brother hood" in game of thrones.

Do agents in Shogun 2 have an upkeep?

If no, make faction agents have free upkeep in Rome 2, and mercenary ones obscenely expensive and only 3/5 stars (so there not uber expensive), and you have to pay the recruitement cost (3k? - representing stars) each turn, and then have the mission cost added onto that?

That way if your in desperate need you can hire them for a mission or two, or a few turns?

Good idea. If CA were to implement something like this, it would either be a very high upkeep or you can only have them for a few turns since agents for hire are usually called in to do a single job and then bounce etc. Hiring good agents could be a very helpful feature. To be honest, I cannot be bothered to take the time to keep killing diplomats just to rank up my assassin. I support this idea.

Shogun 2's agent system sucked simply because once realm divide hit it became such a hassle to throw back the hundreds of enemy agents they threw at you and it was less stressful just to advance your armies and shoulder the blows from the enemy agents.

Hopefully Rome 2's system isn't as annoying. I love agents, but when you have 6 ninjas, 8 monks and 12 metsukes in your territory, where do you even start?

Remember the "Towers" from the original Medieval? Your comment just made me think of them, They acted as check points so if enemy agents tried to enter your territory they would be killed by border police (or what ever the old school equivalent of that is). Can we get those back at least, I hate agents more then Aniken hates sand people.
