Default Wooden palisade in barbarian cities....no walls

If you take a look in the last video, the german city of Lupfurdum is surrounded by a wooden palisade instead a wall...I wonder if this means that, like in Rome 1, barbarian factions will not be able to built more defences than a palisade????

A palisade is a wall and the gauls had wooden and stone walls.

I hope not. The norther faction which are represented in Rome, had some of the most interesting wall constructions of their time, specially regarding the gates.

well its not RL and ultimately if big "barbaric empire" would be crated in that time its very possible that they would get enough know-how to build such wall and also reason to do this since they would become interesting target to their neighbors.

Just becasue you cant prove it with history, maybe it could be technology for barbarian factions? Unlockable once a siege has taken place against stone walls?

The tribal factions shouldn't be limited simply because there is no proof.

Maybe these wooden palisade are in level 1 walls, and they haven't upgraded to wooden/stone walls. Like in Rome 1, your wall will start from empty, then wooden palisade, reinforced wooden walls, stone walls, fortress walls etc..

Didn't the BI expansion allow barbarians to build stone walls?

For some tribes yes - but the most germanic tribes doesn't have stone walls (I remember only the Franks with stone walls in BI).

For tribes... But you can unite the barbarian tribes into a whole faction. As a faction I don't see a reason why they wouldn't build stonewalls.

If you want a town with stone walls as a barbarian faction just seize a town with a stone wall...

Not sure about the Germans but the Celts were certainly capable of building a stone wall, hopefully this will be reflected in game.

"But this is usually the form of all the Gallic walls. Straight beams, connected lengthwise and two feet distant from each other at equal intervals, are placed together on the ground; these are mortised on the inside, and covered with plenty of earth. But the intervals which we have mentioned, are closed up in front by large stones. These being thus laid and cemented together, another row is added above, in such a manner that the same interval may be observed, and that the beams may not touch one another, but equal spaces intervening, each row of beams is kept firmly in its place by a row of stones. In this manner the whole wall is consolidated, until the regular height of the wall be completed. This work, with respect to appearance and variety, is not unsightly, owing to the alternate rows of beams and stones, which preserve their order in right lines; and, besides, it possesses great advantages as regards utility and the defence of cities; for the stone protects it from fire, and the wood from the battering ram, since it (the wood) being mortised in the inside with rows of beams, generally forty feet each in length, can neither be broken through nor torn asunder."

Seems the Gauls used a composite structure that was resilient and complex as it could be without the advanced engineering and masonry of other civilizations.

If you actually look closely you can see that its a stone wall with a wooden parapet on top. So they do have stone walls, just not the same kind as more advanced factions, whihc seems perfectly fine.

I don't think it will be like that OP, even if they won't get Roman style stone walls, they may still get some sort of stone wall/strong wall or at least wooden walls similar to Medieval 2, where you could actually fight.

Dacian designed wall (using techniques borrowed from Romans and Greeks, but still, built by Dacians.):

Well the Germans in the third century didn't have cities, let alone walls. Most seem to have lived in hamlets and small villages, archaeologists tell us. That said, given the fact that it is presumably possible to expand as the Germans, they should be able to learn from their neighbours/conquests (as they did in reality, if somewhat later, first as neighbours of Rome, then as her conquerors). I'd love to see them being able to climb up some sort of tech tree as they grow richer and learn more know-how.
