    Default Praise

    Hi all,

This thread is a place for all gratuitous compliments and youthful expressions of excitement for CA's forthcoming game, Rome II.

I'm trying to put all the praise spam in one place so we can focus our energies on what actually matters, which is analyzing the game and documenting the ways it could be improved.

    Thanks

There are a similar number of settlements with siege battle mpas as Shogun 2. There is also the greatest variety of siege maps of any Total War game.

You like no seasons per year?

Seasons are still in the game. The reasons for one turn per year have been explained many, many times.

you like Gens die fast over time?

Yes Generals will be alive for a shorter period of time but will gain skills more quickly.

You like lack of any deepness in strategy gameplay?

There is more depth and more features in the campaign than any previous Total War game.

you like that most of the coasts are fake and only made by cliffs and even the nile is made like a canyon River? and cant access any of the smaller islands?

That is an artistic choice to make it clear where players can and cannot land their armies. The tiny islands have nothing on them so have been made impassable.

You like that the other cities regions are actually just an improved version of a resource settlement of previous games regions?

No they're like a region from Shogun 2. Multiple buildings slots, can raise armies and have happiness factors of their own.

you like that there is no interest in sieges , roman fortifications , no fortresses , no defence buldings to protect ur empire ?

There are sieges. There are forts. There are deployable defences.

you like that legionaries are black?

There are a variety of skin tones used, some Romans are portrayed as more tanned than others. They're not black.

you like that the AI to win a battle will focus only on getting a specific area spot and wait for some minutes to win the battle ?

That is not what the AI will do. that would be a huge step back for it and we continue to work hard on making it better and play better.

you like that the field battles now are turned into a run for the flag and king of the hill mode instead than a serious strategical and tactical manouvering on field?

Capture points are for the attackers to take, and are one way of winning a battle along with the old ways of you know beating the enemy army. They are implemented to help removed some exploity tactics used by players such as corner camping.

you like that the game is more like age of empires where you stack amount of troops one over the other to capture a point rather then use them logically?

See above. Tactics are still important, that has not changed.

you like to have fake speeds and instacracking of naval warfare?

We have always adjusted movement speeds for gameplay and we always will. That has been true of every game we have made.

you like to see purple units and blue soldiers for factions?

We colour code units to help with easy identificaiton of which units belong to each faction in a battles. Again we have always done that and always will.

you like to see Ballistas fire like a close range artillery ( like a scorpio ) on enemies rather than beeing a siege equipment for sieges? ( or right since now sieges are less can be used otherways?)

Artillery works just like in previous games where you recruit them as part of your army and they move around with it. Their primary use will still be for sieges.

you like that in the historica battles there is nothing historical ? Even the battle of the Nile , where supposely should be Caesar you see romans in iron clad suits rather than the proper mail and montefortino helmets?

The battle is not a strict reproduction of the Battle of Nile.

You like that you have to use a geroglyph dictionary to understand what unit is what?

The unit card images are based on the look of the unit in the game and infact make it easier to see which unit you are selecting.

you like to not have even the time to watch at ur units on field that inthe time you zoom are already dead?

The length of battles will be longer than Shogun 2 but still in line with the length we've aimed for in all Total War games.

you like that the game will end fast?

The campaign is designed to last around 300 turns, which is longer than Shogun 2, Empire, Napoleon and Medieval II. There is also no time limit. You can take as long as you want to finish it.

you like that the game will not portray at all some important cities of the age and instead placed fake places to simulate a balance in areas that were not civilized or developed?

We have gone for a more even distribution of settlements. If we went just for the ones mentioned in ancient writings (which are all Roman and Greek), we'd have a huge amount of settlements which each required sieging in a very small area. That would be terrible for gameplay. We will always go for what plays the best.

    --------------------
I commend you on making a praise thread. I'm tired and I just want to say this game will, hopefully, be the best Total War game of yet. 20 years from now Rome 3? *Tis a joke*

While it used to have lots of historically important cities and lacked historically authentic battles now instead of making up just for the battles and improve the campaign map they decided to go viceversa and destroy the campaign map in terms of historical authenticity but try and make battles more historically correct. That is an indication that CA aims for making their game a MP oriented game rather than SP as it used and still, theoretically, is. And when I say MP I refer to battles since MP campaigns are lacking in actual playability right now.

i understand your point Petronius, but i think that the total war saga is not aimed towards strict historical representation than to create gameplay based on a certain period, with some historical content and inspiration. The games take historical elements and adapt them to gameplay, many people that stress the historical flaws often mention EB or other mods and that is because it have been the mods the ones that have given the series its heavy historical content, no one here can say that vanilla rome 1 was a tribute to history; napoleon and shogun were very good, rome 2 perhaps not so much (We can not tell because we have not played it yet). I love history but i love how the game is being developed, because is how the franchise has been conceived. If i wanted strict historical accuracy i would play europa universalis, or wait for a mod (which are very good in this community)

What i am saying is that hopefully the game will be modable and the great total war mod community will do a great job by giving us good historical accuracy if the game is terrible at it, and that we should wait and see the final content, maybe it will surprise us. Cheers

This has something to do with the Complaints thread?

On topic: I praise the Creative A. members here on TWC for having time for us.
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..
Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

Damn straight, those guys must have the patience of a saint. If I had to suffer some of the snide and rude remarks I've seen directed their way I'd have ditched this forum a long time ago.

Cheers to CA for remaking my favorite PC game of all time. All and all the game looks fantastic and as a whole is much more impressive and detailed than I had hoped for.

God, how weird does that sentence look given the majority of the posting goin on in this forum?

Nothing wrong with the glass half-full:

    - Larger campaign map now allows you to recreate Alex's empire. More importantly it allows for a full-on Selucid Empire (dlc coming our way presumably); Bactria; more historically accurate Parthia etc...
    - Fully integrated naval combat with the land combat (I think)
    - Gameplay constraints to avoid endless stack spam or seiges
    - Sparta
    - Enhanced diplomacy and campaign map mechanics
    - Enhanced battlefield AI....................I hope-ah-hope.

It's worth purchasing and it is nice that CA is dedicated to THE meta-medium; to the greatest gaming platform the Gods put on this earth. The P the C!

While I like what they have done with the unique and diverse cities and of course the beautiful variation of battle units, the number of actual cities (53) is really deplorable and they killed the distribution of cities in the Mediteranean as well. The bad overlooks the good I am afraid. I do not try to be off topic but I believe that they have ruined a lot of the immersion of the game since the campaign map is a big part of that.

Why are these threads ok but if somebody makes a thread about complaints, it gets shot down as nothing but whining haters?

CA doesn't need a thread kissing their feet, people.
