    Default Multi-turn sieges

With cities/castles being sa huge as they seem to be in M2TW, it would be nice to be able to attack, shoot your siege weaponry and "retreat", meaning continue the siege. I don't know if we already have any info on that, but the way RTW handled things the siege was lifted if you tried this.

This is not realistic nor the best way game-wise. I think the walls should be made far harder and a player should have the option to prolongue the siege into multiple BATTLE turns (not just to wait them out).

    Any thoughts?

That would be GREAT. Very realistic.

Every siege I have ever read was a series of assaults, sallies etc.

It would be great if they could do it!

Missiles from the besieger would realistically be unlimited due to resupply, but the besieged could only use so many.....unless they started demolishing their own houses for crafting arrows, javelins etc.

Well, there are usually craftsmen inside the city, you know.

I would like to think that most ancient soldiers worth a pinch of salt could make their own arrows and javelins. But despite this, when you consider some sieges lasted 7 YEARS, my point was that metal for arrow-heads, javelin-points, and in general wood, would not be an infinite resource. Sure you could dig great pits and find stones to throw without demolishing your own walls, or demolish unnecessary buildings, but wood & metal would generally not be so unlimited.

How much wood does it take to make arrows?

Well, considering the logistics of the era (in other words, non-existant) the attacker would be in much worse trouble on that front.

I mean, how many arrows can you make out of a single tree? Considering the size of most garrisons (200-500), that will last a good while.

    Non-existant?

How about millions of trees, hundreds of houses, and the tradition of commandeering any available resources, even despite the fact that Romans etc were MASTERS OF WAR, and especially MASTERS of the SIEGE!

Well, I was under the impression that we are discussing Medival total war, not Rome total war.

Sorry you are right but the medieval armies were not as hopeless as some might think.

Just because it has been labelled the 'Dark Ages' (a misnomer) doesn't mean they were stupid. Any army could comandeer whatever they want. They always have and always will. If any army needs something and demands it, then who is some peasant or local village head to say no?

I didn't think this would turn into a "unlimited ammo" thread. If for nothing else, for the gameplay it would be reasonable that both the attacker and the defender should get all ammo in every turn. IMO the defenders have large stockpiles of everything. It's not like a large army can just show up at your doorstep.

Anyway, I would really like to see multiple siege attacks, just as the defender can have multiple salies in RTW.

Problem is, those peasants usually don't have a state of the art blacksmithry to turn over.
