Mostly disappointed
I don't like how the Romans flew 15 feet into the air when chariots charged into them.
Otherwise everything was as I expected it to be. The terrain is definitely a more detailed, but the gameplay looks exactly like Shogun with more animations and choices.
This isn't a bad thing. I just wish they showed more of the campaign map.
It's gigantic btw. From what I saw, it looks at least 5-8x bigger than Japan.

I was pretty disappointed. They didn't really show anything new. Plus did you see the AI in battle? They are just as mindless as they have ever been.
It was scripted to make it easy for the player to show off the new features and aesthetics, nobody wants to see them misfire with the boulders. That's kind of a ridiculous thing to say.
I thought the presentation was good, campaign map looks awesome, as do the sea/land combination battles. Was annoyed at the host who had obviously never played TW, and that they didn't really show enough of the battle to get any sort of feel for pace and mechanics.
its a scripted battle.
Host was a bit of a prick to be fair.
Oh for sure but you don't have to be so blunt.
Sounded like he didn't want to be there or just plain didn't like the CA rep.
Looks great. All I ever want in a game. Can't wait September.

I noticed something on the campaign map which has returned. You can once again trespass on another faction's territory without being at war with them and not having military access. Of course doing so could have diplomatic consequences. This should be great for barbarian factions, with the ability to set armies to raid and with barbarians being able to sack and loot regions without having to take ownership of it, you will be able to just wander around and watch the world burn.

Oh, I hope that is true! It would be so stupid to require military access in an era where I believe something like that was pretty much unheard of or at least unused but for some great empires maybe when faced with migratory people.
I think the video was pretty much ok considering that it was an only 10 minutes interview and the interviewer was the average TW player who is not concerned with pretty much anything but the eye candy and performance.
RTWRM - back to basics
Those unit cards look horrible. No aesthetic design to them whatsoever.
Artillery impact was awesome, as was finally seeing something of the naval combat even if only briefly.
Campaign map is huge! Also cool how it changes based on what part of the world you're in. Cities changing based on how built up they are is a neat feature as well.
It does look a lot like a Rome mod for Shogun 2. Not a bad thing inherently, but was kind of surprised to see a lot of the UI from it. Might still be placeholders.

With the current UI, I feel as if CA has taken a step backwards.
I don't like the rectangular end turn button in the bottom right. The round season button in Shogun 2 that showed the season was informative and easy to spot.
The menu options in the center is also kind of weird. I liked having things around the end turn button, but it would be even better if they placed them in the top right where there's a dead area.
Having UI in the center is obnoxious and unpleasant to look at.
The unit cards look great to me but the building selections look awful, however at least it's not intrusive like the map UI. The art style reminds me of the OP from Rome so that's good.
