Was thinking if there could be an option in battle when enemy units surrender on the field. this would be the same as routing the unit and they would raise their hands and lay down their arms. Your units automatically take them into custody. Some units will still route normally if they have a chance to escape and there is no enemy after them. At the end of the battle you can either execute, ransom, enslave or Jail. The last option, being one I made up. Would create POW camps all on certain parts of the map. The benefit to this could be diplomatic against your enemy. they are more likely to sue for peace to get their warriors back. Your standing in the world would go up, since people respect what you do with your prisoners. It could help to a diplomatic win.
The draw back would be that your enemy could free these camps, and just take there soldiers back, but you could have the option to kill everyone inside getting a diplomatic penalty as well.
Also it would take some money of upkeep to hold those camps.
Now your soldiers could completely neglect taking prisoners of war if they have this tradition.
