Default Geography in RTW: is it to scale?

So sometimes I like to zoom in on my towns to see how they look. So I was playing the egyptians and zoomed in on the island of cyprus.

Looking north across the med to modern-day Turkey.

So is this relatable to the actual size of Cyprus? I had always thought that everything was scaled down. Although I have to admit that this is an amazing game for showing every square mile/kilometer of Europe and the mideast.

I would say the view across the sea towards Turkey is MUCH too near. Well, I´ve never been to Cyprus, but anyway I can not imagine this would be the real view.

don't forget the land changes, that what is could of looked like about 2000 years ago for all we know, seas are growing and shrinking all the time as is the land being made smaller by the sea aswell so it oculd of been like that

i dont think the map is exactly to scale, but he is right, the coastline of modern Sicily may be smaller than that of classical Sicily

A lot of things were most likely adjusted for either better gameplay or just so everything would fit on the map. Look at the M2 map for example - I think one could skip stones across the atlantic. But then we forget, their name is Creative Assembly, so surely they cant be blamed.

On the scale of RTW vanilla: The post spacing (the spacing of height values in the elevation map heights.tga/hgt) is about 10.000m. The game creates small scale relief using a funtion of elevation difference and ground type. There's a limit to this though. If the maps were true to scale, the [I]smallest[I] discernable relief features you see would actually be several hundres of meters across.
