Default Genesis of Empire: Playable factions

As I mentioned in the other rules thread, we did not think on this subject of which we (players) can take while starting the game. So, I think I'll leave the decision to you guys, the thread shall be open till the proposal is finished.

Here is a brief description about the tribes:

City-States: Settled tribes who build and dwell in walled cities and surrounding villages. Inspired from the City States of antiquity.
Strengths: Civilization, disciplined forces, and ability to grow settlements and build walled cities and large warships.
Weaknesses: Not as numerous as barbarians, people prefer peace to warmongering, troops not fierce or barbaric.

Northmen: Tribes of the northern isle. Dwell and hunt in the harsh frozen lands.
Strengths: Fierce, ability to withstand hardship, warrior tradition peoples, can build longboats for fast and far troop movement, moderately numerous.
Weaknesses: Lacks disciplined troops, penalty for being at peace in long time, troops may exceed orders, longboats no match for warships, lacks cavalry unless absorbed from other tribes.

Men of the Far-lands: Tribes of the lands east and northeast of civilization. Tribes move and settle at their wish. Fight on either horse or foot, or both.
Strengths: Fierce, ability to adapt to change, can move fast and settle easily, numerous tribe numbers, have horses.
Weaknesses: Lacks disciplined troops, penalty for being at peace in long time but people may get tired of fight too, not as fierce as Northmen.

Either all or City states and Northmen.
I'm sure this mix can be a good combo.

Why not both? I think the dynamic of barbarians verus civilization will be cool.

Nomads and city-states, that's my interest.

Thanks for the enthusiastic response. I agree with all your points, which is why I want all players to decide. The reason of our confusion was coz the possibilities are endless.

Also, I'll be playing as a Northmen tribe, and will attempt to unite all North tribes under a Thain. And then all shall tremble...

I guessed as much. Although, you may want to reconsider the knees stance once me and Dread join forces.

Maps I am doing currently. I have done the cities and now I am filling the map. The reason for taking the time is I am putting extra effort in the map to make it look nice and ambient. Also added more info about the tribes in the OP on Xion's request.

Actually, I was telling Zeus about this. If we join forces, he might have to bend the knees.

I want to conquer other nomad tribes, envelop their people into mine, and create a confederacy of tribes like the Sarmatians or Skythians, with my own tribe as the 'Royal Tribe.'

Think I'll do the same with Northmen tribes, only with the difference of trying to achieve an early medieval society.

Seems some people are rather ambitious. I'll probably just try to make a Grand Duchy from a city state by conquering NPCs.

Ha I want a city with a large navy rule the trade lanes and conquer the ports! All heil Venice and its magnificent fleet!

Well, bending of the knee may still be quite the task. To be honest, I might go all "death before the knee".
I have no problem creating a struggle that will ultimately show the worth, or ineptitude, of your main. Though I would be loath to lose mine of course, i could always create a new one upon his death. And take your time with whatever you have to, we don't want to start and thus end prematurely lol.
