Default Total War : Rome II approaching BETA

Its great to hear that the foundations of Rome 2 are set. With a release date schedule on the 3rd of september Total War : Rome II has a lot of time to do Beta polishing , balance tweaking and such to provide a solid release. If the game is going to be released by September the third that means that the BETA would end somewhere around the second or third week of august. This means that they have around 73 days until the 21st of august where they can balance and tweak the features of the game , remove bugs and work on optimization.

I wish great luck to the CA team on their continious work and i am looking forward to hearing more great news from the BETA

    Default Rome 2 Approaching Beta

Graham is hitting the stands at E3 2013 this week and ducked into the SEGA booth for a look at their RTS-tastic line-up, which includes Company of Heroes 2 and, one of our most anticipated games of E3, Total War: Rome 2. There he had a chance to chat to studio communications manager Al Bickham, who said that Rome 2 is “approaching beta” ahead of its distant release on September 3. The Creative Assembly are doing “feature tweaking, a lot of polish, a lot of bug hunting” ahead of the beta.
“We’ve got all the bits in a bag, we’ve got all the features, and it’s making sure they’re all balanced and they’re meshing and working together properly” says Al. Watch the video below.

    "approaching beta"

Those things they mention, feature tweaking, polish, bug hunting, balance, aren't they all apart of the beta stage?

Will I be seeing a 5gb patch on release day? I don't know how long beta stages typically are, but I don't think they are as short as 2 1/2 months. Especially for a game as big as total war and more specifically for a game that has received the most changes in the series.

I would be surprised if they don't do a beta at least a month or 2 before release, a lot of games seem to do that these days.

I think this is bull. Rome II has been feature-locked (read: in beta stage) since April, possibly March. No way they would dash from alpha to gold in less than a couple of months.

Uh, if alpha testing started in April then Rome 2 would have four to five months of tests, not less than two.

Is 2 and a half months enough time for beta testing to even be effective??

Considering they're only really looking for the common bugs, once they release it will have many minor bugs which will be phased out over patches. I'm not saying it'll be half baked like Empire, but Shogun 2 was hardly perfect when it first came out and this already looks in a better shape that what we saw for Shogun 2.

Around 76 days of BETA testing is a very very good time frame for a team of around 200 employees. Considering the Alpha being playable at E3 right now.

It's pretty much at the end of it's alpha phase anyhow. As stated they almost have everything in place.
