    Default PS2 problems

Ok since people don’t like reading ill make this short. My PS2 is no longer reading any games that are blue disk, or games that are from 2001 or older. I have two because of this, but an friend tolled me to fix the problem by just taking it apart and oil the lens or something like that. I’m writing this to ask for help. Before I go play doctor with my old PS2, has anyone encountered this problem before? And if so HELP ME! I don’t have the money to buy another damn PS2. I got two PS1, and PS2 because of this. If I can avoid buying another ill do it. Any sites or such on this problem would be much appreciated too. Thanks for any help.

    Have you tried customer support?

Yes I have, but it was 3-4 years ago. They just tolled me to send the thing to them and they would fix it. Yea for $260-$280, so I just waited and got another one brand new once they hit the $200 price range

You get the chip replaced witch costs about $25-$35 but make sure you go to a shop that repairs electronics if you go to a big store the will charge you more.

    Hope this helps.

God bless you westy! I did it on my Old PS2 and the damn thing is shot. Power wont even flow through it. However I was about to give up when I just thought what the hell I done screwed up one so why not another? Well on the newer one it worked, and it even read blue disks! Huzza I can finally play my Gundam Battle Assault 3. Its time to kick some Seed ass with my Tallgeese

And thanks for the help The Walrus. Its good information but like I said they ticked me off once so screw them.
And thanks Leonidas the Lion after thinking about it that might be what’s wrong with my older one, so once these damn bills blow over I might see if an new chip doesn’t get it working too.

Glad to hear its working. After a few months thought it will probably happen again but follow the same process and you should be ok.

You can not say that the PS2 has a fried chip just because hes experiencing simular problems. I had the same problem and you know how i fixed it? By giving the lens a swipe with a piece of cotton wool. I suggest you try the same. Now for opening the PS2...

Have a bulky cross-head screwdriver, a jewlers screwdriver (thats just a very small one), tweezers (for hair removal) and your clean piece of cotton wool ready.

First turn it upside down and pop out the rubber and plastic feet covering the screws. Unscrew the screws.
Turn it over again and take off the lid on the top (you may have a bit of difficulty getting it over the PS2 logo on the DVD drive but a pull and a stretch will get it over). BE CAREFUL ABOUT THE PAPER LIKE RIBBON connecting the PS2 to the lid, so when the lids off dont yank it away, lift slowly and you will find the ribbon, now rest the lid on something like the wall on its side.

Use the jewlers screwdriver to remove the 4 tiny screws holding the lid over the DVD drive. Now you have access to the drive. Yucky isnt it? Remove any hairs with the tweezers (beats me how they get in there) and clean the lens with the cotton, just a quick swipe will do it. Now fit the PS2 back together and load up a game, works like its brand new doesnt it?
