How about using real stuff the Romans would have deployed like tribulus?
Because the game focuses solely on Roman tactics and warfare, and not any other cultures that were known for using aforementioned tactics and traps?

Sounds ambitious. Lets hope it's not bugged, and that the AI makes full use of these deployable options as well.

Sounds good, wasn't aware of this before now. Deployment of this kind of thing in previous games always felt like a bit of an afterthought, hope these play more of a part in battles

Yeah, my sentiments pretty much follow everyone else: sounds great, but will it work?I am glad that they seem to be offensive as well as defensive, it was rather tiresome in Napoleon to set up trenches and just... wait.

Well Poison Arrows (venenatae sagittae) were certainly used by Gauls, Eastern Horse-archers and by extension the Romans themselves in the Auxillia. I'm fine with that. Fire pits I have to wonder about how they will work.

let's be honest, we all know the reason there are fire pits is because they look damn cool

Well, since minor settlements won't have siege battles, the usage of defensive impediments and traps seems like an interesting alternative to protective walls and towers. Let's just pray that they, when combined with a strong starting position, will actually be effective and manage to hold off enemy forces for a reasonable amount of time before engaging the player's troops, otherwise their entire purpose is defeated.

Didn't the Gauls use pits around Alesia? So when the Romans attacked some of the ground they attacked gave way easily.

Indeed they did. They had a perimeter of holes covered with ground, with spears sticking in the bottom. The second perimeter was lined with briar bushes, effectively acting as razor wire. They had also dug a moat in the base of their rampart, which was also lined with briars. Attacking the fortified Romans must have been living hell for the Gauls.

I believe it was the Romans that utilized the pits against the Gauls that were attacking both from the city and the outer walls Caesar built.

Yes the Romans placed the "Lillies" as they called them.

I've always wanted to be able to put unturned carts and debris in city streets to slow down assault units, or funnel them into kill zones..

Wonder how long will it take for a poison arrow to kill? I think this might only be effective against animals like elephants, camels, horses, dogs and pigs

I would think poison arrows wouldn't so much be used as a fatal option for your enemies, but rather equip poison versus fire/normal arrows and have the affected unit go from fresh to exhausted. Or drop in morale?

Or linger for the next battle, causing disease? Or mostly likely to neutralize animals like elephants quick
