The Rhine was at least navigatable with larger transport ships up to strassbourg. I was told that there were milestones for the rhine and that strassbourg is the beginning, but the Rhine is offcourse navigable much further.

The Elbe is too close to the Rhine IMO. Two large navigable rivers will take up too much map space and give those factions inhabiting it an unfair defensive advantage. I reckon the Elbe will be minor.

I am okey with Rhine, Danube and Nile because that were the really important rivers. Eufrat was also important but i could imagine that they exlude the persian gulf for shipping.
Specially the norther rivers like the Rhine were navigated with smaller transportships, which i doubt are in the game. The romans tried to use larger ships like triremes on the north, baltic sea and the coast regions of Rhine and Elbe, but that causes more than once huge catastrophes and the shattering of the entire expiditions. I hope there will be a damage factor in this regions for this kind of ships like it was in Shogun 2 for beeing on highsea. In the same way the smaller native ships should be able to navigate there successfully which would give them a home defense advantage which would be historically accurate.

Doesnt make much sense that small oared ships suffer no damage and larger ones do .
And anyway the smaller oared ships of germanic natives stuck along shoreline , for oceanic sailing Romans did not use triremes but ships like onerary that were much more seaworthy than the warships .
Anyway apart the Veneti Barbarian tribes never had any valuable fleet that could match or pose a danger to the Romans in those areas , so the usual fleet operation were support , transport and eventually combined operations .

Well the maps show Danube, Rhine and Nile so those are the 3. Wish they were a bit longer though, an overall larger natural barrier.

Gentlemen. I bring you, the maps from the artistic previews:

Here we see the Nile, we already know it's in.

And up there we see the Danube and it looks like it stretches quite far. It might not be definite, but it is the closest to proof we have of the Danube being a navigable river.

And there we have the Rhine, stretching... not that far, actually. The navigable part, at least.

In the beginning of the Cleopatra trailer we can see the danube in the distance, being navigable

also now in the new picture where we can see how far the nile is navigable, and then comparing the length of the nile and rhine of the faction previews i guess the navigable part of the rhine will be pretty long actually although the artistic representation of egypt might just be zoomed out more

I would think the Euphrates/Tigris would be the third over the Rhine strictly for gameplay purposes. Also I dont see having access to the English Channel providing much to offer historically in 270 BC over Mesopotamia/Persian Gulf

The Rhine stretches just enough to enable a combined land & naval siege on Bagacum apparently. (unless Bagacum is too far away from the river, I don't really know what the requirements for the combined battles are)

Even though it is more of a dark age thing I would like to be able to navigate the Volga river as the German or British barbarians... perhaps inhabit Russia, Kazan invading down through into the Caspian.... OR the opposite... having my Pontic empire stretching to the Caspian and be able to send out expeditionary sea forces up through Kazan and perhaps over to the Baltic ( I know the Volga doesn't exactly connect to the Baltic but I do know it has waterways that go out that way. )

Nile, Danube, and Euphrates. One on each continent. I doubt CA will use the Rhine and Danube if they are only making three navigable. Regardless of realism, this is done for gameplay reasons, but will still be realistic.

    Nile - Already shown.

Danube - Natural Roman border, connects Central/Western Europe to Black Sea.

Euphrates - Connects Central/Western Asia with the Indian Ocean through the Persian Gulf and will make factions have to adapt in that area strategically, due to possible river raids/sieges. Should be interesting.

When Hiero returned to besiege their base (Messana) in 265 BC the Mamertines called for help from a nearby fleet from Carthage, which occupied the harbor of Messana. Seeing this, the Syracuse forces retired, not wishing to confront Carthaginian forces. Uncomfortable under the Cathaginian "protection," the Mamertines now appealed to Rome to be allowed into the protection of the Roman people. At first, the Romans did not wish to come to the aid of soldiers who had unjustly stolen a city from its rightful possessors. However, unwilling to see Carthaginian power spread further over Sicily and get too close to Italy, Rome responded by entering into an alliance with the Mamertines. In response, Syracuse allied itself with Carthage, imploring their protection. With Rome and Carthage brought into conflict, the Syracuse/Mamertine conflict escalated into the First Punic War.
