    Default Custom Settlements and Lag.

Before I start let me say that I went back 5 pages in this sub forum looking for related threads and I also searched the entire site and the custom settlements submod thread by leo.civil.uefs with no success. No need to bombard this thread saying I am lazy and should have searched instead of lazily posting a new thread. If someone can kindly point me to a place where this subject has already been discussed then I would be appreciative and some rep might be involved.

Now onto my actual problem. When I fight in custom cities my computer often begins to lag and significantly lose fps. When it occurs it never makes the game crash, but I must ultimately exit the game because it is just too slow and I can do nothing but suffer through it for hours until time runs out. I have noticed it mostly with Osgiliath and Cair Andros, which is the main problem. I can never play as Gondor because crucial battles always happen in these settlements and it either comes down to skipping the battle and losing my general (usually Denethor, Boromir, Faramir or even a combination of the three) and my main army against Mordor. It tends to appear during unit heavy battles, but I have fought battles the same size outside the walls in Osgiliath with no problem. The problem hasn't really come up in the other CS, but I definately have not played around much to find out. I can say though that the lag didn't occur when I played a huge battle at Cerin Amorth (At least it was the fortress in in the eastern half of Lorien.) and it hasn't occurred in Moria. Now that I think about it I can't remember having such lag when I besiege/sally from the settlements and it often happens when the enemies siege equipment gets stuck and their path finding gets broken.

Now my question is has anyone else noticed this? Is there anyway to fix it? I know that there is a guide to get better performance from your pc in the guide subforum but my computer can run Shogun II at full graphics with no hitch and is fairly new. I don't really want to download a bunch of stuff off the internet either with no idea if it will actually fix anything. I must add too that I am playing the game on the latest version of TATW and the MOS addon.

    Thanks.

Many thanks to the good folks down at the Graphics Workshop for the sig.

    1) Shogun 2 uses multiple cores while med2 does not so you cannot compare the performance if you computer is fairly new
2)yes i have noticed it and fixed it (at least for me)

    3) what i did was make my game LAA (large address aware) you see the problem is med 2 came out before any games started doing this and so it suffers horrible in fps making your game LAA involves upping the ram it can use from 2GB to something higher like 4GB (it totally depends on how much RAM you have) , and remember you need at lest 1.5GB for you OS to still function !

i recommend this thread it helped me a lot , it doesn't talk about custom settlements but battles in general

depending on how much ram you have the FPS boosting script and the 4GB patch could help you alot

Thank you very much. This is quite along the lines I was hoping for and I will try it out.
