Supply Lines
Would it be possible to integrate actual supply lines, caravans, groups, whatever, into RTW? When the Romans marched away from home conquering, how did they stay supplied? Besides accumulating food and goods from their vanquished, they must have had mules, oxen, carts, slaves, etc all loaded to the max to support thousands of soldiers for months on end. What about setting up supply camps along the way?
I know that's leaning toward micro-management, but it would add realism by having to worry about and implimenting all the logistics needed to undertake such a massive adventure as conquering a foreign land & people.
Is there an easy way to add this underlying feature somehow? Or can a mod be created?

Re: Supply Lines
A lot of people have thought about this too and lots have concluded that its far too much micromanagement. Having supply "camps" or some sort of baggage train will just end up being annoying.
I think the best thing to do is to have some sort of "dynamic upkeep" cost for all units. I Basically your upkeep costs for all units that leave your territory should begin to dramatically increase as you move farther and farther away from you capital. And this should only apply to non garrisoned units - so ones that are outside forts and settlements. So if you decide to send you stack of Romans to far away Britannia or Parthia - the upkeep costs should be dramatically increased to "simulate" supply lines without actually having to physically have them.
I think the above idea adds alot to realism and will make you think twice before sending your armies off to far flung lands for bloody adventures.

Thx for replying.
I like your idea of decreasing from the treasury for costs as the march becomes prolonged. A much easier idea to impliment! I would also like to see it get away from just gold though if possible. What about a storage pit(graneries) at home, that maybe you would have to keep supplied above the minimum needed for all non-garrisoned forces. When the food in your graneries dips below the minimum, soldiers in the field start to perish.(or go AWOL)
I think there are certain things that only gold can be used for, and obviously hungry soldiers need actual food. Which makes your farming and trade industries that much more important.

Re: Supply Lines
Erm, completely the wrong forum you got there. This is the Questions and Suggestions forum about how TWC runs. If you want to ask CA if they will add this to the TW series then you need to visit the official forums at www.totalwar.com. If this is a suggestion for amod then no it can't be implemented as that sort of thing is hardcoded.
