    Default Dacian Economy / Diplomacy

Just started a Dacian campaign (for the war-crying falxmen) and, so far, it has proved to be one of my tougher campaigns - because of your start position, you never seem to be at peace for any extended period of time. My only allies at this point at the Boii, I'm at war with Rome, Macedonia, Greece, and I recently attacked the Sythians to my north. If I waited for Sythia to attack me first, I'm pretty sure the Boii would have sided with them, and that would have made it a five-front war (as if I didn't have enough to do!). That being said, I can't complain too much as the Greek cities are rich, or are at least in need of less development that barbarian villages (which grow very slowly without enslaving conquered peoples).

My basic expansion tactic has been to try and reach the black sea, which I have done by taking Byzantium with tremendous effort, and I am constantly repelling Greek and Macedonian stacks here, they know how rich and important a city it is. The Greeks and Macedonians are themselves fighting, and its so lovely to spring an ambush on a retreating army from one of their battles! So satisfying.

Anyway, early economic development has focused on my capital, the city north of the capital and the city south (I have looked everywhere for the names sorry I dont have them). I built the final barracks at these locations, and are vital to me because I have to replenish my armies from basically three towns. My income is around 20,000 a turn, often 30,000 after a large enough battle. The Romans send one or two stacks every three turns or so. Macedonia mainly just harasses me from the South, sometimes throwing a stack at my southernmost city, and the Greeks are good at bribing armies without generals but I have no direct conflict with them except at Byzantium.

Basically my question is, where to go from here, and where to get some help to ease the strain on the diplomatic front? I thought about allying myself to the Galatia and maybe sending a stack to help them in Iberia, as Carthage HAS ALLIED WITH ROME. Not even fair. And seeing as I now have access to ships, I may start looting some of these beautiful Greek islands. My general policy is to stay three turns to build to destroy military buildings and all temples, and to build one of my own. When I get back to my game Ill try and post some screens, but man has this campaign got me on edge with so many enemies!

There was one fellow playing RTR Platinum who migrated the Seleucids to Britannia.

I remember once I was playing 0 campaign just to feel them out...and was about to go on a large expedition(Three full stacks) to Cyrene and then Carthage...depleting all my military and money for that turn.....and then tag team of Scythia and Macedon took out the Capital....so I went on to capture Carthage Syracuse and Massalia....\. But eventually it became to expensive to handle...so I rounded everyone together and under the new king landed back in Illyria and march to the Capital and took it back

Basileos Pradator I think I'm going to take your idea to the extreme, a tribal migration to Britain in a quest for peace! its a shame I can't go horde like in barbarian invasion. I'll post screens as soon as I figure out my new PC. I'll have to reconfigure my armies for fighting barbarians, though. But to fund the expedition, I plan on looting all the conquered cities and even eventually my own capital, as soon as the reigning king dies. Never done something like this but it sounds like a real challenge!

But, going back to the original topic, barbarian economy doesn't get those nice bonuses for olive trade, typically doesn't have the resources for supply of army rations, and typically doesn't have access to ports -- so what economic structures do other barbarian-players find more useful? I've gotten pretty good at mining, seems to be the only thing that can make up for a lack of trade.

Mining is your ace. With mines built in regions that have metal resources, you'll have no trouble expanding as you see fit. I'll also suggest funding an expedition to the Spanish provinces, as their metal resources can give your faction more income.

A few months ago, I also played a Dacian campaign, so I can give you some advice, even though is kind of late for that. First of all, attacking Scythians was a mistake. I made peace with them as they are also attacked by Sarmatians and you really don't want those devils coming down on you. Eventually they'll conquer Scythians and then you might make a grab for one or two of their territories.
Second, early alliance with Rome is very important. Your early worst enemy is Macedonia. An alliance with greek states is also possible, but don't expect it to last. Conquering Greece should be your main priority, but make sure they are involved in a war against Rome.
Boii are your allies, but they'll be eventually overrun by germans. Hopefully by that time you'd have most of Greece conquered and a steady income flow, so you should be able to build some armies (even mercenary armies) to sent against germans.
