Shogun 2 FOTS - Spear Levy OR Yari Kachi
Quick simple question, note this is in single player not multiplayer! What is better? Spear Levy or Yari Kachi? I believe Spear Levy is better against cavalry, but Yari Kachi is better against melee, but does a substantially well job in melee too. If you absolutely had to choose between the two, which would you prefer and why? Should I have a little bit of both? Thanks@

Yari Kachi - Braver, better staying power and can contest in combat with the best of them.

If you can afford the two turn production for yari kachi, I'd never build a levy instead of kachi.

Well for most situations, you would need 2 levy to fight line infantry where as with kachi you probably only need 1. the added rapid advance ability will allow you to catch some enemy cav aswell as reduce casualties from missile fire.
Although I dont know what beats what, 2 levy vs 1 yari kachi. In my ROTS campaign, I completed it only using the levy troops as I could afford twice or three times as many in terms of upkeep compared to attendants and samurai. But the other total wars, building a large army of militia troops is good in the early stages but by the mid stages you would want to start replacing them with kachis and modern units.
But also from what I can remember, I made the mistake of making an entire army of kachi, both sword and spear, while they were deadly effective, it took a long time for them too fully replenish compared to modern units such as line infantry. I dont know if spear levy have a fast or slow replenishment rate.

Re: Shogun 2 FOTS - Spear Levy OR Yari Kachi
levy meant to overwhelm others with mass production ;p
most situation, strength in numbers.
Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.
My holy damn simple tactic; Strike First, Strike HARD and SHOW NO MERCY.
