    Default Stage a a Coup...

So after reading extensivly over the all the new information in the game. It seems that politics within the countries will be huge for certain factions. Even the barbarians get to make federations with each other !!! my dream...I digress. I wanted to know if maybe staging a coup can be an option to take out a faction from the inside. Take over the country with a party your backing, or just a puppet regime thats from your faction. Or maybe even just absorbing in the faction over night.
I thought maybe having agents do this dirty work but thought it be cooler to have your families/leaders do it. Maybe burn down the capital building where all the governement are at one time. you know where the governement is going to meet by spys, and then you get them there by attacking them and forcing them to meet. Then burn baby burn, you take over the government and take over the country or at least the provinces closest to the capitol. lol I just saw Star Trek and thats kinda what happened. I guess I dont really have it too worked out yet but I think it be a neat way to conquer others and historically it did happen.

I though this pic was cool, just found it

Yea that is what I was thinking. What I really want to see though is real ideological subversion play a role within the game. Like your agents can go about and spread pro roman propaganda across the world and convince the peoples of other nations to support your faction. I want to make alliances and bilk other factions of their resources and manpower with a dumb brainwashed smile on their faces. I want to install traitors and spies within the governments of my enemies and have them deliver me their war plans/inventions/logistical information. I want to create puppet nations to act as buffer zones between my enemies and myself(Kind of like NTW but WAY better).

One of the tactics that I consistently employ in every total war game is make an alliance with a very weak neutral faction and then give them provinces between myself and a large enemy nation in order to funnel enemy armies through a single point between the neutral faction whilst I can simply march through my ally's lands, replenish, and then walk into undefended enemy territory virtually unopposed.

Also you should be able to create puppet states. A puppet state would be a very useful tool in a game like ETW. I can't tell you how many wars I wanted to intervene in within an ETW campaign but couldn't due to diplomatic reasons. With a puppet state feature I could intervene in just about any war I wanted to and have the puppet state take all the flak for my actions. Say for example I don't want Russia to take over Sweden which is almost an inevitability in ETW. I could declare war on Russia with my puppet and send armies to over in St. Petersburg for the sole purpose of defending and keep the balance of intact.

Bactrians will be Big 8. "Farther East" means Bactria.

I agree, making federations would add more immersion. Being able to take over a nation using politics would be a nice feature, but could be abused. I would suggest (if it were implemented) making it costly for time or money. Using influential characters from your government party could also add a bit of risk, so it would only be done in select situations. Overall, I hope CA expands on politics, seeing as that was a large driver of conflict and peace in the time of Rome II.

The benefits to creating a coalition are just about as powerful as the negatives. With a coalition you have no control over the current war. Your just one part of the puzzle and it's not like you can just attack your allies if they are gaining more territory than you are. Also you are probably going to be a subject to the most powerful member and could be placed at a position of cannon fodder just being used by the larger more powerful faction. Also who's saying that the coalition will survive? Say if an allied nation within the coalition betrays you then your pretty much screwed. Now your not just facing the original enemy you are also facing all those guys who used to cover your backside.

And I agree with smartbomb in that being able to control countries through shadow governments would add alot to the spy and assasins system. to be honest these features I feel need to be used just like the way they took out the diplomat. on a spy screen, showing your spies and where they are and the different things they can do. I dont mind still haveing agents running around but I think the Spy screen would be alot easier way to control the way other countries opperate from the inside
