    Think about it guys, the andals represent the angles or english.
    The northmen were never conquered but submitted scottish. SO could this be proof that a stark will be king of westeros. The welsh could be dorne or the eerie.

    So I know who Im gonna root for now. Death to the andal scum.

    In your Britain analogy I'd say that the Andals are Normans, the southeners are the Angles, the Northeners are Northen Angles and the wall is Hadrians. Wales would probably be the eerie.

    Yeah I think that the first men are the Angle-Saxons and the Andals are the Normans. (Andal conquest/Norman conquest). The Andals, like the Normans, first brought knights to England. Scotland is representative of the Free Folk and I agree that the Iron Islands are Ireland.

    No, the Children of the forest first worshiped tree's, so they are the first men. While the andals brought knightly traditions to Westeros like the Normans did to England.

    I like the British Isles analogy, but I think yours is a bit off. The Andals represent the Anglo-Saxons rather than the First Men- the First Men represent the Britons.

    The Normans are represented by the Targaryens- Aegon the Conqueror and William the Conqueror

    I would say that the Ironborn are definitely Vikings, especially seeing as they used to rule vast parts of the English coast and the Ironborn used to rule vast parts of the coast of Westeros (Think Harren the Black).

    I've heard the war of the five kings is based on the war of the roses, so...

    Starks: York
    Lannisters: Lancaster

    I agree with Arryn/Wales and Wildings/Scotland too

    I think it's more: Edward IV of York (never loses a battle and spends the rest of his life wenching and wining) - Robert Baratheon
    Henry VI (known for mental issues) - Aerys Targaryen
    Woodville family who married Edward IV- Steal control of a weak king and surround him with their family i.e Lannister's who then warp the crown to their plans.

    Nah, the Ironborn are more like the Vikings mixed with the Venetians.

    Well, I guess you could tie them to Ireland a bit, as the Vikings settled the east coast of Ireland extensively, and actually built Dublin.

    The other day I was checking out Martin's site for the first time and he suggests reading John J. Norwich's A History of Venice, a great book.

    Well, Westeros is based off of England.
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Ireland is the Vale, while I find the Iron Islands more to be like the Isle of Man. Location wise at least.

    And interesting fact, Stark is Scotland in the alpha

    More likely Northrumbia, with Scotland being the Wildlings.
    I feel like I've seen this discussion before.

    I always saw the Ironborn as the scattered Norse holdings in Britannia.

    This is just proof of how brittish is a filthy mix of different etnicities like normans, saxons, celts and romans etc. No offence guys!

    And the Iron Isles are likely based on Isle of man etc geograficly. However the Ironborn are inspired by danish and norse pagan vikings. Longships, Sea raids, axes.. you name it.. we got it

    Im Canadian and I approve this message.

    As to the OP but if your speaking about pure geography yes Westeros is like the British Isles. However if you count culture the may be influenced by the different ones around Britain but then how would you explain Dorne? You cant make the equivalencies you do when it works out and ignore the fact that Dorne is much more relatable to Moorish Spain than to anywhere on the British Isles in my opinion.

    North = Scotland
    Riverlands = Northern France
    Westerlands = England
    Iron islands = Norway
    Vale = Switzerland
    Stormlands = Germany
    Reach = Southern France
    Dorne = Spain

    My take on this. Also, as I've said before, Westeros does resemble Albion in general shape, but I find it is closer to Ireland geographically.
