Default Making Hard Campaign Difficulty more Challenging

Although I find "hard" campaign difficulty too easy, I don't like "very hard" campaign difficulty's effect on the game; even though it's more challenging. Even if one can compete against multiple AI stacks of almost all samurai armies, I just find that "very hard" beaks my immersion and becomes tedious (I become tired of constant battles and usually stop playing).

So I'm looking for a way to make hard difficulty more challenging without just giving tons of bonuses to the AI (like very hard does), and instead maybe finding a new way to slow down the player's progress.

Are there any mods or other things I could do to make hard difficulty more difficult without giving the AI more bonuses? Thanks in advance

There's a few mods that increase the size of the castle garrison, that could make it more difficult without upping the difficulty. You could also do a concept campaign-only use more expensive units, migrate, turn Christian, few provinces and the rest vassals, don't use diplomacy, don't declare war let them be the aggressor, only join your allies to get into a war, don't build any economic buildings, just learn military techs, etc.

Wealthmonger provided good tips. You can roleplay otherwise just set the difficulty on Legendary and get over this "AI bonus" stuff. I mean whats the point of complaining over a difficulty being to easy if harder difficulties are available right in front of you. I don't wanna turn this into an "AI cheat" fest. Just know this your brain is the biggest cheat

Just play on legendary, everything else is far too easy anyway.

I have played on Hard on Vanilla, DarthMod and Radious and I must say, Radious is far the most difficult game I played.
