Icon12 Runs on Steam, Windows 8 and tries new things - Why are you excited about TWR2?

I wish everyone entering this thread a very good day and I hope you thoroughly enjoy your stay!

I spend some of my time on this board going through threads and discussions, looking for snippets of news, from the tiniest screen shots to posts made by CA people like Jack Lusted. I read about some of the historical stuff people like to post, I read about objections people have. You know, I sometimes even frown at some of the things announced for the game.

However, most of my time on this board is spent spend trying to be a bit optimistic and positive and trying to set some misconceptions straight. Frankly, it is quite tiring at times to only see negativity on this board, from people not liking Steam to people feeling a comparison between CA and the worst practices in the gaming industry is fair.

Therefore, I have decided to make a thread solely for the purpose of sharing what we are most excited about for this latest instalment in the Total War-series.

    I'll go first!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The original Rome was the game that made me fall in love with this franchise and to go back to that period will be like sliding into a nice warm bath. I cannot wait to see my legions again. To come, see and conquer. I love the detail shown so far, I love the way the regions and provinces have been set up now. I love the style choice for the unit cards. I cannot wait to see more of the family and diplomacy system, particularly for the Romans. I think the limited armies thing will be very interesting and might make me actually fight every tactical battle. I cannot wait to crush those uncivilised barbarians, salt the Carthaginian Earth and annex our Hellen(ist)ic half-brothers around the Mediterranean. Most of all, I love that CA is trying new things every instalment. I think it will turn out to be the best Total War yet, but even if it is not, I would rather see CA try new things and fail, than just make the same game with better graphics all the time.

What are you most excited about when it comes to Total War: Rome 2?

pretty much everything. the more I hear about it the more excited I get.
limited armies, naval regions, huge map scale & scope, new diplomacy options, unique city models, unique faction research, the most historically accurate rosters and unique factions to boot!

yea. this is going to be great, I hope CA delivers on what they promised and give us more surprises that we have not heard about.

I pretty much wanna see the new features and gameplay modifications, how the army system will work, how the politics will affect, the revamped AI, the new map, the new family system.

For me it has just so much more to offer then the other TW games. Burn, kill and enslave nations, hire mercenaries redo the punic wars fight barbarians, ... so much diversity in this time period. Why wouldn't you get excited about it?

I get pretty excited for any Total War game, but yeah, there's a lot of new stuff in Rome I can't wait to try out. I'm glad it runs on Steam (for updates and easy DLC and what not) but I played the last 3 Total Wars on Steam as well so.

Now putting 30 minutes into a massive battle will actually mean something! I hate army spamming, so what CA have done for Rome 2 is looking really sexy in my eyes I'm good at destroying much more larger forces than mine, especially barbarians, but I always wanted something where that would actually mean something. A lot of these mods for Rome 1 are really good, but they practice army spamming. Rome 2 has a much more better combat system than anything before it, beasty visuals, brilliant animations, HUGE campaign map and a staggering amount of factions! Oh yeah...no more army spamming! Well done, CA . I must say though, CA are taking a risk with 1 turn per year, it's not exactly going down very well in the TWC forums but CA has my backing and I like that they are trying something new.

Virtually everything. I've not played Shogun II or FoTS, so I'm bound to be blown away by the graphics. I can't think of a single feature that I dislike, I can't think of one that doesn't make me excited. I'm sure any little things such as more units per army will be sorted out with mods or DLCs soon enough, so I'm sure I'll be as happy as can be!
I've just invested around £1300 in a new computer largely in anticipation of Rome II.

My only worry is that I'll have too much going on to devote my life to it entirely.

It turns out I won't be getting it at release due to spending my PC money on a squat rack and 200kg's of Olympic plates.

    Oh well.

It looks and sounds great! I really enjoyed Shogun 2 and hope it improves upon it!

The region/province system, internal conflict, improved battle and campaign AI (hopefully), and army legacies are the main ones.

the new roman style naval battles, the new graphics, the new regions and provinces system, the new battle system where you can have amphibious assaults, the new internal conflict system, the new diplomacy options, the new fleshed out factions, the new unique cities, the new customization of legions, emblems and banners, the new units...

basically everything that's new is the reason as to why im excited about Rome 2

I'm excited about finally getting to play with my Roman legions again and can't wait to plan my invasion into Hispania and maintain my borders until the barbarians in the north come venturing down into my lands. I really cannot wait to see what type of monsters come from the black forests of the germans MUAHAHA
I also can't wait to play the Barbarian factions and see how different they are from the original Rome I

    -accurate units
    -epic naval fights (I hope)
    -big cities and maps
    -assault towers and ladders
