Medieval Shell keeps opening!

Everytime I press a directional key the medieval shell opens, and when I do it in Campaign the game autosaves, opens the key mapping and brings up the shell again! This is on Medieval 2 and Kingdoms (Both bought on Steam), and the game is literally unplayable

Any help would be unbelievably appreciated!

It is a Windows 8 laptop, good sir

A known problem with laptops clear back to when someone tried to play Medieval2 on one.
So far up through Win 7 so I'll include Win 8 saying it's a mouse driver problem be it the laptop maker and their builtin mouse pad I can learn to hate, or a USB mouse you maybe using.
Try to update the mouse drivers of what you have. Some have also had good luck using Microsoft's Intellmouse drivers. Some had to give up on playing on that brand and model of laptop.
The game is too old to think CA or Sega are going to update the game to acommodate this.
