Icon7 Expanded Japan (97 new regions, 101 new factions)

    Purpose

The purpose of this mod is to make the map more accurate by adding some of the provinces and factions that existed during the Sengoku Jidai time period that were not included in TWS2. The original TWS2 had 65 provinces and 47 factions, I have increased this to 176 provinces and 163 factions. As there are now more provinces to conquer I've increased the number of provinces needed to win each campaign and increased the number of turns per year to 12.

The following Saikaido (Kyushu) provinces have been split into one or more provinces:
    - Hizen province into North Hizen (owned by Matsura) and South Hizen (owned by Ryuzoji) provinces.
    - Tsukushi province into the Chikugo (owned by Kamachi), North Chizuken (owned by Shoni), and South Chizuken provinces (owned by Akizuki); and Tachibana (owned by Tachibana).

This mod isn't compatable with any other mod that adds new regions or changes the startpos.esf.If you want to make this mod compatable with these mods download the Pack File Manager and remove the startpos.esf from these mods.

This mod is also available on these mirrors. To install download the expanded.rar, unpack it, and put the expanded.pack in your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2\data" folder. This mod doesn't autoload so you need to select it on the mod menu.

Let me know if you want me to upload this mod somewhere else.

    Future releases

My main goal was to release this mod as soon as possible, then update it to make it more accurate. So any advice regarding the names and locations of the settlements, towns, ports, and farms in these regions would be appreciated.

If you feel I should add a region I'll need to know a lot of things; such as where this region is located, the size of this region, where the settlement/town/port/farm are located, what the settlement is called, and which faction controls this region.

    Permission

This mod can be used in any other mod as long as I'm credited for my map.

    Modding

If you want to know how to make a new map I've written a guide here:

This guide explains how to add new factions:

I knew someone would do this one day. hahahh now you can definitely change the World. would be cool if you could add provinces to those theater islands and hokkaido in the Sengoku map later. congratulations.

I can do this with Shogun 2 because of the official tools. ETW and NTW will be more difficult because we don't have the official tools.

I'd need more information about Hokkaido before I can add it.

Have you thought of making regions for the "Trade nodes" islands?

  7. #7

Default Re: Expanded Japan mod (2 new regions)

Most of the trade node islands represent countries that aren't on the map. So it will be difficult to add them.

Regarding island nations I'm unsure if the islands are big enough to add a settlement and farm to (it was difficult to add everything to Izumi). I could try making these islands one region and spreading everything throughout this region but I don't know how the AI would cope.

Just for future reference (and being optimistic) is it possible to do this to the FOTS map?

EDIT: is there some sort of region and pixel limit like Medieval II?

Yep about Hokkaido. there was the Matsumae clan. they were a sort or a branch of the Takeda. and i think there like always would need a Farm, a Port and a Lumber Camp. as wood was the most important thing of that land. and a Bear or 2. Hokkaido is the only place in japan where really have Brown Bears (unfortunatelly for the first settlers as they killed dozens of them) and maybe some deers to mean a wild land. i mean something like the most wild of the provinces like a japanese " Alaska ". good luck. is very good to know it's finally possible now.

As CA also released the files needed to edit the FOTS and ROTS maps it's possible to add extra regions to them.

There probably is a region and pixel limit but I don't know what it is. The AI may also have problems if the map is too large.

carve off some regions in Mutsu to make room for the Nanbu Clan.

and maybe other big regions like Musashi in Kanto.

divide the Hatakeyama since maybe vanilla region ownership can now be edited?

make Awaji its own clan, via the Hachisuka Clan (well it was in the Seki mod time period, dunnoh in Sengoku, but I like an excuse to have swastika mon bearing clans. )

(Its clickable by the way....An S2 overhaul mod.)

Seriously. Click it. Its the only overhaul mod that's overhauling enough to bring out NEW clans

Here's a picture of what the Hokkaido provinces might look like. I don't know if the Ainu had borders on a map like the Japanese did.

That brings up a larger question. Would you create custom Ainu clans with custom units and custom settlements. I wouldn't bother IMO.

That you found it out. That's so cool! Could you place it on the Steam workshop? And teach some other it too, with a tut or something. This will make it possible to create total new maps.

How do I put something on the Steam workshop?

I've already made a tutorial, which is available here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...split-a-region

I should be possible to make completely new maps but it will be a lot of work.

Good question. I've only found info on how to upload new maps. Best bet is to probably sent a PM to one of the overhaul modders like Radious, might be the same process as them.

The only problem with Steam workshop is that it has an 100MB limit on, so i'm not sure if this mod is too big for the it. If all else fails you might be able to just create an item in the workshop that just redirects to this forum for the file. Either way it would be another way to get the word out to more people that this stuff is doable. As another way to spread the word, have you tried asking a moderator to put this on the front page?

Insert the mod into the Data folder, Then launch the game as usual. When the ModManager appears, double click the Mod you want to publish in SteamWorkshop, it'll open a new popup where you can also write the Title and Description of The Mod. In There, Click "Upload to SteamWorkshop" on the bottom of the window. Wait until The Upload Finishes, then just exit the ModManager without launching the game. Updating also works this way, and all users of the mod will get automatic update through Steam.

Edit your Mods through Steam, but Uploading Thumbnail Picture need to be done from ModManager as the mod itself.

As SteamWorkshop have 100MB limit, a good idea is Splitting The Mod into several numbered mod that have to be used at once, Just like Frodo's Campaign Siege Map Overhaul (1,2, and EMFAB as separate pack that need to be used at once)

Ah, I wondering, Is it possible, and more Importantly, Legal, Adapting FoTS map to the Vanilla Game and RoTS...Modifying it by swapping the Cities with Vanilla and RoTS ones, swapping Resources, deleting Telegraph Lines and Railroads...

Thanks. I've tried to add this mod to the Steam Workshop. Hopefully it will appear here soon.

Fortunately this mod isn't that big so I don't need to put it into multiple packs.

It's possible to do this, provided that you rename a lot of things. You don't need to delete the Telegraph Lines and Railroads, all you need to do is not export them.

Swapping the city models and resources is simple as you only need to edit the DB tables and the start_pos files, then rebuilding the esf files. Basically the cs2 files tell TWS2 where something is on the map and the the esf files tell TWS2 what type of thing is on the map.

Regarding legality as it would be legal to create a new map similar to the Boshin one I'd have to say that it's probably legal to adapt this map so that you can use it in other campaigns. Though the easiest way to get around this problem is to make a mod that turns the FoTS campaign into the vanilla and RoTS campaign. That way you can't use this map without purchasing FoTS.
