Default Has anyone played the LOTR mod for Rome?

I was wondering how many people here have played the Lord of the Rings mod for Rome? It seems to me that the Third Age is very popular, much more so than the LOTR Rome mod. However If you haven't played the mod, I suggest you go check it out. It is definitely on par with the third age, and also has some innovative features like flying fell beasts. I also like the change in unit balance, I like how the elite elven troops are stronger, and trolls aren't as strong (I feel that trolls are OP in TATW, but that's just my personal opinion ).

There is also the fourth age mod for Rome (which I believe was made by the same people that made TATW?), though that is based on the time frame after the war of the ring, so I don't get to play my beloved elves .

i'm more into this mod. I tried the third age for rome (on my older pc back at home) but I just plain like this one better. Especially with mos. The features medieval 2 total war has are just more advanced...

    - Which is a fault... There was still lots of elves left in Middleearth after the Ring war.

I've tried LOTR for RTW, but i must say that TATW + MOS + Enchancements are much more greater than LOTR for RTW
Also i think i saw another submod for TATW that had flying beasts?

I'm not trying to say that one mod is better than another or anything. They're both great, though the Rome mod has a couple of features that I like, some things that I think it would be good if vanilla TATW could have. I have tried the MOS submod for TATW, but TBH I didn't like it that much for whatever reason.

Oh to clear up a point though, I'm talking about the 'LOTR' mod for Rome, not the Fourth Age.

Yes, Fourth Age is amazing. It suffers from the limitations of Rome: Total War but it's one of the best mods I've played.

Yes, i liked how they had that elven swipe animation( see here at 1:50 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYkcrgced9U)
But rome has its limitations, which held back the mod.

The Fourth Age is amazing, and not only for not following the movies (Even though I don't like the idea of a second Kinstrife). I don't like LOTR:TW. Too close to Jackson's films. And also exclusively based on them.

It is a good mod to play but the limitations of RtW versus M2TW is somewhat a turnoff for me at least.

They're working on a new release for Fourth Age: The Dominion of Men, so that should improve the look of it, make things better, add new culture thingies, and of course add three new factions to the game. It's very good already, but it'll be even better soon.

I hope, someone would eventually manage to mod Rome 2.

I believe there is a Lord of the Rings mod for the original mount and blade, called the last days I think. However a new LOTR mod for Mount and Blade Warband is being developed, set to be released this year. It's called the Veiled Stars I think.

The Last Days mod is one of the best mods i have played. they really put a lot of time and effort into creating it.

I played it for a while back when TA:TW was still in early stages of development but to be honest I don't remember a lot about it.

LOTR Total War was the better than TATW for playing Mordor I think since you got to play around with all those cool über-units, but for the other factions I prefer TATW since it uses the M2TW engine which means it got nice combat animations and is less demanding for the computer, plus TATW in recent versions pretty much catched up to LOTR Total War by adding custom settlements and Sauron as a unit etc.
