    Default Traditions and Legacy

Here's my Top Ten list of Traditions that I would like to see given to my soldiers.
This is mainly my speculation of traditions that could be implemented.

    1. Pyrrhic Past

"The Unit has had a Pyrrhic Victory in the past, they survived."
    +2 Defence
    +5 morale if outnumbered

    2. Superb Phalanx

"Units have been trained in phalanx as if Alexander the Great was leading them."
    +5 Defence to frontal aussault
    +3 movement speed

    3. Elephant Kindness

"The unit has trained and even raised these beasts from infancy."

    +3 morale for Elephant Units
    +4 charge bonus against infantry

    4. Raiders of Europa

"The unit has pillaged and burned his way through enemy lands, the loot was well worth it."
Your unit pillages 20% more income than before
    +1 move space when retreating

    5. Siege Master

"The unit has taken cities by the sword, taken most by starvation."
Turns to wait a city into starvation reduced by 1
siege equipment built 1 turn faster

    6. Bow and Arrow

"The unit has been trained by nomadic bow masters, they shoot and kill"
Units that use bows gain +5 reload skill
Units that use bows get +5 accuracy

    7.They cant see me sire

"The unit has survived 100 mission, but was never there"

Stealth Units are hidden from units line of sight for 30 seconds
    +7 attack while sneaking

    8. Royal Guard

"This Unit has fought the same enemy as the general multiple times on the battlefield"
+1 morale when the unit is in the generals sphere of influence
+3 morale if the general inspires or ralleys the unit

    9. Throwaway's

"The units have been thrown in the worst situations, and learned how be victorious"

Militia, peasant, and light units gain +3 speed
+3 morale when facing elite/higher experienced units

    10. Envy of Carthage

"The unit has battle the seas and other ships, there is nothing it cannot achieve"

    +5 ramming speed
    +2 speed
Sailors thrown overboard will try and find their way back to the ships.

So this is my "Fantasy" tradition list for the units we will have. I only did ten but I could think of a whole lot more. Can you guys think of any?

Interesting. I do wonder if their are going to be in-depth, faction-specific army traditions like you have here, or if there are just going to be boring, nonspecific traditions: +2 defense... +5 charge bonus... + 1 morale...

my favorite is the ship one, i always wondered why the sailors who get thrown overboard just kinda wade on there. ide be at least grabbing lumber or trying to get back on the ship lol.

This would be particularly good for really pushing the idea that veterans are far more valuable than any freshly trained unit, even if they are trained very well.

yea...except for number 9 lol but to be honest, we've all used throwaway units once in our total war lives, i felt that they needed something to make them special. but I guess to get the throwaway tradition you have to have veterened militia/light units.

I like those, but those all seem to be based on the actual usage of the army. Unfortunately, I think CA is going the direction of letting you choose the traditions regardless of the actual experience of the army.

I'm expecting the appearance of traditions based on terrain as well. For instance, an army that wins X amount of battles in the Levant/Middle East area has +10% movement speed/stamina/combat efficiency in desert terrain.

Elephants buff ... worst infantry nightmare ...
I want something like AOE morale buff around veteran soldiers or units will gain bonus attack/defense against X enemy or X terrain after they fought for a long time in an particular area and enemy.

btw: I like that royal guard pictures. If we can have her in the game that's gonna be so cool.

This article someone grabbed pictures from seems to indicate that as well: http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/total-...3012769,2.html

Also, the traditions are confirmed for whole armies, not individual units.

I still dont understand the whole army thing because what if you mix and cut up your army? Would they all still get the bonus?

Some great ideas here, it might be possible to have something similair to this in Rome II, considering Legions shall have their own identities and histories. Why not traits too? It'd fascinating and useful for CA to develop them.

Also, what if you command a legion to victory at a famous spot say at siege in Rome, Athens, Carthage etc, you get a trait such as Conqueror of Carthage (if your legion takes Carthage) which gives you +2 attack and +3 Morale in future sieges.

I like that idea, like the legion was part of a famous battle. like capital cities and huge battles. I would change the payout though. To something like this.

    Ancestral Glory

"The unit has survived famouse encounters, their name is immortal"
Units gain experience 30% faster than normal units
+4 morale when facing armies of similiar size
    +2 stamina

Not sure you approach here is quite the one CA will be taking. Traditions are supposed to be things that the army is notable for doing, not just things it's done in the past, and they're supposed to lead to any army becoming specialised, so they'll be things like 'Siege Experts, Ambushers, heavy infantry specialists, cavalry specialists' etc (but with more flavourful names), not "this army was awesome in the past, so it gets +2 to killing dudes". Most of your suggestions would not change the way you actually *used* a given army, it will just make that army more effective in most situations.
Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.

yea, I thought CA wanted to specialize the units, so I tried to give them traits that would do that. I just didnt include how often in the past they had to do a certain job before they get the "perk"

    Came up with another one

    Death in Darkness

"the unit has defeated several foes by cover of night alone"

The units get +4 morale in night battles
The unit becomes invisible for 30 second by the enemy in night battles.
