    Default Levelling up Non-commanding Generals

Hey folks I need your help,

I want to level up two of my generals in the same stack as a high level commander, but they only seem to get a tiny bit of experience - what is a good way to level them up?

I want to make them into hero-style units to support that army.

Yeah, that's a bit of trouble in Shogun 2, the sub-commanders don't seem to learn much of anything. I've had luck by running them around with small fast units to raid and pick off small enemy groups.

Try sending some of your general and one or two other units to ambush units along a route your enemy uses to reinforce armies. This will result in him learning a lot about running down archers, but this experience is apparently more valuable than sitting at the strategy table for massive battles. You will gain combat ranks and stars for combat attributes for your hero-like generals.

Do Detaching The Additional Generals and Using Them as Reinforcement in Separate Stacks- trick still works?

That or just let one of your poor provinces rebel and have your general beat the rebel army(which should be cakewalk, and the rebel army should be really small if you picked a poor and undeveloped province).

This. If you're serious about ranking up generals then the best method is constantly and deliberately letting provinces rebel then smashing the puny armies that arrive. I never take a province without letting it rebel several times over to farm experience. Military Crackdown means it's not always possible to get a rebellion every turn, though it's easily offset with a bit of garrison juggling and choice exempting/raising taxes in subsequent turns.

As a side note, warrior generals are best 'recruited' when your capital has either a blacksmith or horse breeders. Sons coming of age and generals obtained via the event will then have the provincial upgrades to attack/armour/charge. Also, if one of your family members is wounded by an assassin, he'll convalesce and 'respawn' at your capital with all upgrades from that province, even if he didn't have them previously.

I have found that whomever leads the attack gets the bulk of the experience. I'll usually detach lesser generals and solo attack with the rest of the stack as reinforcements. Since generals can move much farther per turn than regular stacks, I've found this helps prevent armies from escaping too. Also, I train generals by using them as admirals. It's not the safest way but it gives them valuable experience. Once they level to 2 or 3 stars, I'll bring them back on land again as needed.

10xp for commanding general. 3xp for reinforcement general. 1xp for sub-general.

Never thought to make them Admirals to level up. I will try that.
Riddle me this, riddle me that:
    Who was my first commander?
How many of me are active right now?
And who drank a Delacourt '27 when received the commandership of me?

Always put another general into another stack and always put them on reinforcement.

I think this is the best way to level up all generals you want to leveling up.
Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.

My holy damn simple tactic; Strike First, Strike HARD and SHOW NO MERCY.

Wow, I didn't know that about General's respawning with provincial upgrades when wounded. Thanks!

P.S. I don't think that works anymore Altimis

The rebelling garrison province idea is working quite well though I have lost a few this way - sometimes the rebellions are massive haah!
