    Default Different kinds of revolts

I remember from the original Rome that on certain occasions there would be special kinds of revolts ala Helot, Gladiator, Judean, ect. These never same to come to much and they were all very easy to crush. Do you think that revolts like these will be enhanced to actually make rebellions and revolts seriously bad news for the faction that they occur in.

I think depending on the revolt type will determine the difficulty of the army when you face it on the battlefield, at least I hope.

I found the revolts in Shogun 2 to be much more annoying/difficult to deal with, in a good way. They were actual armies that simple garrisons could not handle. I would guess there will be rebellions in badly managed territory and I hope that they will be bad enough to really disturb my plans and have me divert a legion or two to that province.

I hope that for each faction we will see cultural revolts: where another culture within your empire rebels because of significant unrest and tries to build their own nation (like the judean revolt) and factional revolts: where a general/family member/ political rival gets ideas and tries to take the throne by force. This should result in your empire splitting in loyalists and rebels and should give you the choice wich ones you will lead.

With these two kind of revolts the Seleucid empire could deliver a fantastic gameplay experience

I think with the new limited army system, whereby troops wont be able to be spread out as much and sending an army to put down a revolt will be a big commitment in terms of available manpower, revolts will prove a challenge. If you have to bring back an army from a front it may well leave a gap that could be exploited by another faction, so bad news indeed!

Am seriously looking forward to this game now after catching up on about 3-4 months of news today.

The best rebellion system was still back in Medieval I. There you had simple peasant uprisings, religious-inspired rebellions, local nobility fighting for independence, revolts in favour of the former region owner, etc. All of which could be a considerable challenge, and could often succeed in driving you - at least temporary - out of the region. I do hope Rome II will make revolts more challenging again.

They had emergent faction revolts in Medieval 1? Why did they remove that in Rome and Medieval 2?

They had them in Rome Barbarian Invasion at least. The Romano-British, Ostrogoths, and the Slavs were all emergent. You could say that the Timurids and the mongols were kind of emergent in Medieval II but not really.

I'm a bit split about that one.

On one hand, it was a pretty cool revolt.

On the other hand, it was mostly due to a lot of faults from the Romans.

I wouldn't mind seeing Spartacus, or a rebellion like him; but I would rather have it only happen if you managed Rome badly. If you lead flawlessly or really good, it shouldn't really happen in the first place ;P

There was much more than a few new emergent factions in Med I. For example, a revolting province that was recently captured from the French would be very likely to rise up in favour of their former masters, giving them (or you) an army to command. Also, instead of just new emergent factions, defeated ones would sometimes reemerge - sometimes in rather hilarious locations! It was a great shame that the feature was removed in Rome I where revolts were simply generic rebels taking over the city, without the various types that appeared as an army in the field (which was much more realistic than taking over the regions centre of control). It's only really with Empire that revolts and civil wars started to meet Medieval's standards again.

It was a somewhat evil feature. And I do believe it was added with a patch. Oh I remember the rants of people who suddenly faced a rebellion with three stacks of elite troops, very far from the frontlines (remember that back then it took time to travel and there were no free garrisons). Hundreds of player empires toppled when the last remaining family member of a defeated faction started his uprising. It was quite glorious, and it was quite a challenge. But in the end people just took note of the age of any males that hadn't come of age and took the required precautions when they did come of age.

Hopefully with no more widespread rebel faction more specific and varied revolts will be available.

I think something like we can help a rebel force retake their territory after being drive our of their homeland then they become our vassal is pretty cool too.

That's a pretty sweet idea, we shoud be able to open diplomacy with landless factions as well and one of the options could be offering to help them like this.

    Types of Revolt I would like to see;

Slave/Gladiator revolts: A small band of escaped slaves led by rebel gladiators begins destroying estates and raiding villages. The longer its left unchallenged the larger it grows.

Citizens revolt: This revolt will be centred upon the larger cities. I picture it as being more like the 'revolution battles' that were in Napoleon...So on the one side you would have the Praetorian Cohorts marching into the city square to disperse the crowds, and on the otherside you would have the armed citizenry (perhaps supported by ex legionaries) and THE PLAYER would choose what side to fight for leading to a political change within the Senate.

FOR EXAMPLE: The rival families may dominate the Senate, whilst your family members have been on campaign elsewhere. But the success of your campaigns has been a BOON to your popularity. So you could fight as the 'revolters', and if you win your family gains greater prestige in the senate. Or on the other hand, if the revolt is AGAINST you obviously you will be the prateorian cohorts and move into crush it.

National Revolt: A province long ago conquered becomes restive and a nationalist rebellion occurs inspired by a charasmatic leader. The rebel movement will innitially focus their efforts on a city to become their capital, but once it gains this city it will act aggressively and like any other faction within the game.
