Each new release seems to have an increasingly arcade feel about it, like it's targeted at being the flavour of the month for some casual gamer rather than a hardcore strategist. And the new releases come frequently too!
Ultimately, shiny graphics and gimmicks add very little to the long-term gameplay. (But they do, however, continually inflate the game's system requirements.) I want a Total War game that has a campaign side that can completely immerse me, with an AI that can challenge me. Each subsequent TW release has failed to create an AI that can properly manage the campaign map, which is a key part of the single player game. Can they not just make a re-polished version of the original MTW map, since the AI did a much better job in that game?
