Floating Battle Flags

Can you guys answer something for me regarding floating flags during battles?

I only see floating flags on normal difficulty. Above that difficulty every battle seems the same as legendary in as far as I don't see floating flags above units and I get no unit stat's whatsoever.

I don't have the realism mode checked but I see no difference in battles and unit information unless I play normal difficulty.

Can someone list the differences or tell me if this is right?
