How do you know this? There would be many people who may like to play video games but cant due to no access.

That makes no sense at all.

The time it takes to install a game is the same regardless (excluding digital downloads as that's another story).

And when the game first starts up the game has to authorize the copy, it's no more different than the CD-Key check and it only happens once so I don't know why it's such a huge deal unless you're one of those people that love to uninstall and install multiple times for whatever reasons.

It is slower to install according to m y friends who say it is slower compared to the non version.

Sometimes i swear to god there like a bunch of them, all working in cahoots with each other, looking for any reason to gun down the game, ride any negativity, and generally infect people with there bullcrap, and when they run out issues to whinge about, they go back to flogging dead horses.

King Philip II has been answering post about this subject all day, and doesn't seem to grasp that its pointless, but keep on trucking trooper.

Steam is fine imo, does indeed make things easier.

Don't like steam? go buy a console oh wait, they can spy on you with a camera you can't turn off and treat you even worse overall as a customer.

I love the whining over steam boo-hoo-hoo. Look at how the ignorant console gen are gonna get treated with the next gen and tell me how bad steam is in comparison with extreme deals, combo packs a stable platform, and an offline component that does in fact work.

Where as Xbox One has to be online every 24 hours or you cant play at all. Pay higher prices for games with servers that get shut down. Instead of making ignorant threads just don't buy Rome 2. Then again almost everyone that says this with every release usually ends up owning the game anyway.

As for the CEO apology wooo a dude who runs an MMO game apologized a game that is a niche all its own. SHow me a PROPER apology from EA / Dice / Activision / Blizzard etc for their screw ups lol

It's interesting that the gamestudio I referred to earlier is now promoting this as a success story: http://www.eveonline.com/capsuleers/jita-riots

question: is anyone else having problems with TWC? - I get "Can't connect" errors from Firefox all the time and the HTML of the forum is all garbled up.

Last time I checked... You have to authorize a purchase on steam and YOU have to buy it not the company hmm how is that back door?

yeah you can do that varr. but even if you do download it straight from the cd, there are normally small updates on day one that come with the game. and you still have to download that via steam. and even if that's not a big deal, say new members that come to play rome 2 5 months later, who have bad internet. they are going to be forced to download multiple updates through steam before they can play the game, and there is no way around it. if there was a way around it from downloading those updates your first time installing the game, then i see no problem with steam. but if you are forced to download them. then i see a major problem with crappy internet players.

What do you mean by that? Do you know this person/member/user?
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..
Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

A video of false chemical attack in Douma, Syria, which led to Western illegal attacks.

Do you have figures on how many people do not use Steam and how many's sales CA could be losing out on. While sales for CA maybe profitable on Steam they could always get more sales if they had a non Steam version.

Looking at the existing PC game market, I think that you gain more people with a steam based game, than with an hybrid where you need to patch and support in different ways two versions.

Well while i do enjoy some of Steam features, specially the community ones( the chat, friend list, groups...) , the easy it is to upload screen-shots, the auto-patching, and a few other things; i also on the other hand, don't like not having control of what i can and can not do with my games, hate the idea of my games being chained to some un-physical virtual account.

For me it would be great if the games could, in addition to be available at any retail stores, also be brought on steam, but a Steam-account was not a MUST HAVE! requirement in order to play it, like The Witcher for example, if you bought it on steam then you need steam to play it, but if you bought it at any other place, you do not need to touch Steam for anything...

If all games were like that, it would be an ideal situation for everybody(consumers), those who want Steam can use it, while those who don't want it, are not forced to use it, as simple as that.

To put it with other words: Am against DRM in any of its shapes...

But because Steam is so integrated in the game, CA would have to strip out the features out of the non-steam game and release them as two separate products. This would most likely cause a whole bunch of confusion. Witcher can do this because they don't actually have a multiplayer, it is not as integrated with steam's various systems as total war is.

It may seem simple, but it's not.

I never said it was simple, and i know what you talking about, but Company of Heroes, for example, or Warhammer 40k (1 + expansions) did not required steam to be played online(multiplayer) neither any TW games previous to Empire... they merged the games into Steam on purpose, am sure they can reverse it if they wish...

PS: before you or somebody else tells me, that it takes time and money to do so, am sure merging the games into steam in the first place, also required time and money, yet here we are

EDIT: i might be wrong about CoH(it might have required Game for Windows Live) duno why but a bit unsure now, its been a wile... anyway...

Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k uses Relic's own server system to host their multiplayer. Just like Rome 1 used to have gamespy. Besides, the suits at Sega probably decided that the minority that cannot play the game because of steam is considered "acceptable losses". Seeing how much success every title since Empire have had, I don't think they're going to reverse it any time soon. You've got to show the suits that investing the time and resources into making this separate product would increase the profits of their franchise.
