I simply have to hit yes, and i've done this before. As it happens, this time I went downstairs and rebooted the router instead.

You DONT have to connect to the internet in order to go "offline". What hogwash.

And it's not a sales thing on your desktop. It's an icon in your tray and you can control exactly what screen you go to when you click on it. You don't HAVE to go to the store by default, the default landing tab is fully configurable. You have it open your games library, which I do. You can make it so "store" isn't even an option in the tray icon's menu! You can make it not sign into chat/friends. People leveling those kind of criticisms make me think they haven't used it in a while...
Wow. What a silly post. It said that my computer did not have temporary data or something to that effect and therefore steam could not be launched in offline mode. So yes, yes I did.

I've never had any trouble starting Steam in offline mode sans Internet connection.

Can't wait for R2TW on Steam.

I have had this problem in the past before too (supposedly not having any user information stored on the computer?), but it has worked fine almost always. I actually lost internet for a day or two last week and my offline mode worked properly with no connection.

Simply said, while I do not go to the extend of saying that I hate Steam I don't like it either. Woyuld love it goes back to 'pop in the VD and play' time but then I remember I have to buy the DVD rom first since my son broke it a while ago.

In any case my love for Total War games is much more than whatever hatred towards Steam. The only way for me to stop playing or supporting new TW games is when (or if) CA/SEGA whoever owns it later) decide to make the game 24/7 online to play, or pay by the hour, no longer in historical setting (Warhammer Total War foe example) and all files are hardcoded (no longer been able to unpack and mod).

As long as these things did not happen then I don't mind if CA/SEGA using Steam. Much better than silently installing Securom together with M2TW 1.2 patch that still exist even today even after I uninstall the game.

CA managed to earn 2 milion last year. 2 milion in a year with no major release. I'm basolutely sure that withouth Steam-facilitated DLC's and steam-facilitated sales this number would have been much lower.

Do you honestly think that withouth these fantastisc numbers CA would have managed to spend 40% more budget on this game?

I'm perfectly happy with steam, the sales are a great alternative for second hand games, it facilitates great sales and it allows one of my favorite game developers to add more content to the core game after release. Don't know what's not to like.

Ive never understood why people hate Steam. I love it! The sales are amazing, the download speeds are awesome, I love the chat features (though voice could use a little work), just the sheer amount of games you can buy on there, and I absolutely love the fact that no matter how many new laptops I get I can download the same game as many times as I want (ive installed empire on......five? computers so far if not more) I see Steam as helping the PC gaming community (unlike Orgin which is terrible in so many ways). The whole Green light system I think is a fantastic way to help out indie games and ive been using it like crazy.

Here are my reasons for voting for non-Steam:

    1) I don't like to give companies an after-sales backdoor into my wallet
    2) I don't want a storefront on my desktop
    3) I do not support unethical companies like Valve (they sell email addresses to 3rd party direct marketing brokers)
    4) I don't want to have to be connected to the net
    5) I don't trust their security (http://arstechnica.com/security/2012...alicious-code/)
    6) I don't want anything running in the "background" potentially collecting my usage information with the intend to sell it to internet marketing brokers
    7) I really don't want to give the founder a single penny, same reason I don't watch Tom Cruise movies.

It must be a considerable business risk for CA to have such a close partnership with $team. What if they have to close down shop due to, for example, a law suit? Valve Sued by German consumer group

Steam aint that bad. Some of your complaints are childish. You don't want to give the founder money? The after-sales backdoor into your wallet? I'm not sure what that means. Steams going to steal from you? They are unethical? They security is fine for me. I understand not wanting a program running in the backround for various reasons, that's a legitimate concern. It's a shame you didn't just leave it the thread with that.

I really don't think a few people posting on the forums they aren't going to buy it will change anything. Most of those guys/gals will probably buy Rome anyway. You'll probably buy it. I like the post above me who said the amount of people who don't like steam are a minority. That's true, and no one cares about minority's so you better learn to like steam.

I can see the problem needing Steam for some people if you didn't have internet, but I don't think it's a problem for most of the people who are against Steam. It's not like you don't have access to the internet almost 24/7. It would of been cool to see Rome2 off of Steam for the few people in the world who don't have internet, but since everyone here does you can't really complain to much.

Oh another anti-steam thread. When was the last time you used Steam OP? It seems to me that you are on a moral crusade against CA, as every post in this forum is negative and frankly it's getting tiring seeing the same threads pop up again and again being written by the same people.

Lol, I remember these kind of threads before CK2. Some people were complaining about steam and that they wouldn't buy future Paradox games if it were steam exclusive so Paradox also made a non-steam CK2 . But it turned out that 95% percent of sales came from Steam. They also said that it's much easier to just make a steam version due to dlcs and patches. So EU IV is only going to be a steam exclusive and I imagine most sales for CA also come from steam and it is a lot easier for them.

I also may point out that the patch distribution service in Steam is far superior to what we had in the past. I remember when CA released a patch soon after STW2 was released that broke the game, however once CA was alerted they were able to do a mass roll-back of everyones copy, this would have not been possible in the past.

TC's made threads about four different deal breakers so far.

Useless troll who somehow gets responses.

One that may not be able to afford it! I'm freakin' buying the retail game. It should at least install on it's own.
