Default An interesting picture i found on the wiki

    The image is titled "Damage_prototype2".

CA mentioned very early that equipment would become worn/damaged over time, but we haven't heard anything about else about it. The image obviously depicts the same helmet and sword, just in different conditions.

So if they now can depict armor getting in worse shape as the soldiers fight battles (or whatever method they use to determine how much the armor is damaged) ...couldn't the same apply to the soldiers themselves? Will we actually see older veterans with scars etc?

Sorry if this is an old picture/has been discussed before.

i think the real question is if the quality of the armour,if damaged from many battles, will affect the performance of each unit, will they implement some sort of buildings that might repair the armour?

I think the damage will only last for the current battle they're fighting in. By the next battle (which is likely over a year, or more, later) the soldiers would have done maintenance on their gear already.

I knew this damage effect was what they were doing when I saw the faction reveal pics, and how the soldier's gear in those pics was so dented up, while in others they were not. Of course people needed to complain and assumed that all the soldiers in this game just look unkept and had dented up gear all the time, and I don't think anyone even realize it was just a graphical effect since the soldiers were in the middle of combat already.

Glad you found some info to prove this op, thanks!

Repair and maintenance of armor is probably going to be included in the price you pay to maintain the unit.

Since we won't have blood in vanilla Rome, I'm guessing that these will be 'the blood effect from Medieval TW', to show up on units that have been engaged/damaged in battle; or it could have been the original idea.
Or it might just be purely cosmetic(like not every unit having pristine, newly crafted gear).

While cool, and something I really like, it looks like they are just variants of 'gritty' from battle. Meaning, like the dirty bloody effect in M2, that after a while in combat the soldiers will have their helmets dinged and their swords nicked. These are just the various options as they don't look like a progression. Nor do I think they carry over (one would assume a soldier would have his kit fixed between battles).

It's cool as long as it's just cosmetic. I don't want to march my armies back to where I have a blacksmith or whatever to repair their weapons and armour. That's some micro-management I really don't need. Maybe having them be in a city for a turn or having an army in defensive mode for a turn, that's acceptable.

Well, you have to consider that a legion move with supplies and blacksmits, and should have the ability to simply camping to repair is equipment if supplied.

I recall reading about a battle site that had been found in germany. The archaeologists belived it was from a Roman aux. cavalry unit that was part of Germanicus' raids of retribution. Anyway, they found a helmet that had the cheek gaurd repaired by glueing it back on and the interesting thing is the glue was still adhering after two thousand years. So, yes, they did do field repairs and quite well it seems.

Now if I could get the recipe for that glue...

Well looky here, another amazing find on the wiki:found here:http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/File:Circular_6.png I haven't seen this one before. I checked out the picture of the "damage prototype" and found out Jack's uploaded some stuff he hasn't announced yet. We/I should keep an eye on his contributions page(http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Special:C...utions/Jack_CA) to see if he stealthily sneaks anything else by us.

To all the non-techies wondering where the photo comes from, right-click on it and copy the link location. In this case, it is:

    Definitely a good find - +rep!

Nice find, the first helmet is the non damaged one while the rest seems to be different varation on damaged ones. I don't think it's a progression, it might be for 1 battle only. But maybe it won't get fixed until you go back to a city you own, since it's hard to repair your equipment if your deep into enemy territory.

wow thanks for bringing that to my attention! That bang on the money! So there will be physical viewable battle damage to units hopefully! Not sure if thats been done before in a past total war game? minus mud splatter on uniforms, unless you include the stuff from the blood pack? Although not sure if its a way of showing levels of veterancy maybe? Hopefully it is progressional damage to the units, and hopefully like the old versions sometimes unit would suffer a downgrade to there attack weapon which then needs to be retrained/outfitted.

Or maybe its a way to show months of campaigning in enemy territory? Looks great, very glad this has been included, even if its just cosmestic for the gritty feel.
