Help with papal states

How do I play as Papal states any detailed help would be good. I have tried looking it up and I have no experience of this and it is not working for me when I move them to playable. I there a step I need to do before moving them to playable create a different folder or something?

Have you set yourself as administrator? Because you may need to do that before you´re able to change the files (I assume that you have already unpacked them).

Remember to copy the desc_strat file and paste it to you desktop, make the amendemnts then and then copy that file and paste it back into the game folders, overwriting the original desc_strat file. Keep a backup of the original file just in case it messes up

You could also use a mod, such as the Custom Campaign Mod 1.02, which let's you play as the Papal States as a standard part of the Grand Campaign. I only suggest that mod because it is brain dead simple to implement, and a small download compared to most... Close to vanilla except troop costs are 1/2 of vanilla.
