Default Your usage of "auto resolve battle"

    Hey guys,

I want to know how much and in which cases you use the auto resolve for battles and whether you plan to go on like this in Rome 2.
For myself, I use the feature pretty often, because in many cases I just want to fight epic battles, or, in general, like defending much more than attacking. But also the "bugs" (me defending with a small army against a big one leading to 50 losses on my and about 500-1000 losses on the other side) come sometimes handy, even though I don't like this abuse.
But after I crushed a huge army in a huge battle and want to celebrate my victory just to see the next army coming one round later or even the same round takes my enthusiasm, too. Especially in my current Sparta TW campaign as Sparta where Macedon seems to have endless full-stacked armies, which annoys me really hard after some time.

Do you take part most of the time?

Sometimes I dabble in fighting very easy battles just because I like to see the backside of my enemies. Though more often than not I'll use the auto-resolve. I must admit, I use it a bit too often for assaulting during sieges in medieval and rome. (Obviously I use it all the time in napoleon and empire since sieges are so boring).
I'm eager to have a go at a siege in R2TW though. I guess some people just wanna watch Rome burn

I usually auto-resolve when the odds are clearly in my favor, and they usually are since that's the only way I like to fight my campaigns. I'll fight a battle if the odds aren't in my favor, if I just want to have some fun or look at my units, or if auto-resolve isn't decisive enough or causes me to get too many losses.

I usually auto resolve battles that are small (including easy sieges), where I have no chance to do much damage, and most naval battles (at least in SHOGUN 2). Auto resolving naval battles is more out of boredom than anything else though. I like to fight out Empire and FoTS naval battles.

Most battles I fight out will usually be pretty large where either the balance bar is in or out of my favor, because I know I can beat the ai, and or take less losses. I do fight out quite a bit of unwinnable sieges if I think I can do quite a bit of damage to the attacking force.

I use auto-resolve to deal with stragglers. 5000 vs 50 does not worth my time, even if I may a couple of troops more. I also use auto-resolve for full-stacked 2 vs. 2 battles, since I know that my good old compi will not survive such a carnage

After a while, when the going gets easy, I think "screw it, auto resolve all of the battles from now on".

There would be times in rome total war, being outnumbered, A simple battle tactic was to put all my legions on a very deep formation, very close to one another, in a circle and this was enough to beat two enemy armies with pretty much equal units as I was fighting the other roman familys.

i mostly only auto-resolve when its easy battles not worth the loading screen time, or in games where naval battles are boring (see shogun 2 ) Fots battles atleast are great fun

I only use auto resolve when a win is guaranteed and the battle isn't worth the time to fight, or if I don't care about the outcome. Other than that I'll fight the battle because I will lose way less men if i fight. Sometimes i get angry with auto resolve where half my army dies and when i fight the same battle I lose like 100 men. FOTS naval battles were like this, my full stack of iron plated ships could take down many of the Ai's ****** stacks of wooden/copper plated but auto resolve would just give me a lose and all my ships would sink. When it does stuff like that I never use it regardless of how many combatants there are.

I mainly autoresolve. I don't when it will be a fun (read as; challenging) battle or one that autoresolve would automatically lose.

I auto resolve when the battle is already won. I would play them all but between the 1 min loading time and the 5 min it takes to begin the battle the 2 min battle just is not worth the time.

In the beginning of campaigns I almost never autoresolve a battle. When my empire is huge and i'm fighting different fronts I use the option more. I also use autoresolve mostyl when i'm conquering a town/city with just the general in it. But that's not always the best choice.

Yeah, because of this I hope that CA makes the campaign map as interesting and with as many features as possible. Plus, the new battle-features like scared soldiers, "personality" for every unit etc. will make me fight more battles in Rome 2 than in other TW games I think.

I always auto-resolved naval battles. I might change that habit when Rome 2 comes out.

sometimes i auto-resolve entire campaigns, no problem finishing a campaign in a day lol.. and sometimes i play almost every battle and the campaign takes a week or 2.. i like it all

I play most of the battles, auto-resolving only when there is no point (full stack vs. a couple units, etc.). Battles are the point of TW after all - without them might as well play a Paradox game.

I use auto feature only when I want to get through the campaign a little faster. Most of the time no matter how the battle is matched I like to play it if I have a desire to just play a battle. I also like fighting matches where i'm outmatched, inside and outside of a castle. You never know if your men will hold their own against their enemies. Who knows you might win. I think I do autresolve more with sea battles, and that was because i wasnt very good with them until recently. I sure hope they make these sea battles fun and worth playing.

    Never.

Many times the small battles in a TW-game can be more interesting than the big ones, and you have more time to fight the "perfect" battle and enjoy the details.

Often these are my favorite battles, the critical ones early on where you have barely more then half a stack and everything has to go perfectly.

Yes of course, but the problem often is that the resolving isn't that accurate. Yeah, you could say that there is always room for unexpected victories, even if you're clearly outnumbered.
But as long as they don't fix it, even though its kind of bug-abusing, its coming in handy at some times, even though I always think its kind of unfair. It would also be pretty nice if auto-resolving gives some mali, for example generals do not gain command points or something like that.

I'll most likely use auto-resolve exclusively for naval battles unless CA somehow managed to make them enjoyable.
