Default "Veteran soldiers will look different compared to fresh recruits" - is this in the game?

I remember reading this in an interview back when the game was announced.

Apparently veteran soldiers would look more hardened, with things like scars etc, compared to new soldiers. But we haven't really heard anything about it since, which is strange because that's a fairly major cosmetic thing.

Another thing that hasn't been talked about AT ALL despite it also being a major feature was "discovering" technology ie. the romans would be able to get their hands on a new version of the gladius (or something like that, i can't remember) earlier than they did historically if the player encountered the gauls.

Are you sure? That's good 'cause everything that gives differentiation is welcome!

I don't recall seeing anything like this. You may want to try to find a source. And if it was that long ago, it may have been one of those 'subject to change' features that didn't make the cut for whatever reason, hence why it's not been mentioned again.

i remember this also but i think they were talking about the "human face of war" like how the fresh young recruits would shiver or shake look nervous while the vets. would just look normal not afraid, or at least that's what i think

I think it would be pretty cool to see men in veteran units with bandages on their heads and maybe a few gruff beards in the mix.

I don't really care much for such minor cosmetics that you only see when you're fully zoomed in. The game will only be getting grander in scale, so you'll only be spending less and less time zoomed in. So at best it's a sales pitch, a gimmick, with no real effect on the game. Don't get me wrong, I do care about graphics. Shogun was a great game, but I wouldn't be able to go back to commanding pixels. On the other hand though, Medieval 2 reached a level in graphics that fulfilled my wishes in that department. I know it's a completely personal opinion, but I don't need to see more graphic detail than what Medieval 2 offered. So I'd rather see money and time being spend on other aspects of the game.

yeah about that grander scale, do we allready have some confirmation about 40 units per stack, I know it is implemented in FotS and the screenshot of carthage, zoomed out style shows more then 20 units (land + naval) so I suspect it is true but I would like to see a confirmation from CA

Why should veterans look diferent ?
Why people believe everything that they see on comic books ...

You believe that a soldier would always use the same armour, clothes, not healing their wounds during is life as a soldier ?
For your information the veterans were the ones that had more priviligies on those aspects than the recruits.
And after some time , they would be part of some kind of élite .

    Scars don't heal.

And veterans are often noted by customized and shabby-looking gear. Field veterans, that is, not Parade-ground veterans.

Indeed, scars dont heal ,but , you dont need to be a veteran to have scars.
Some grey hair and a darker tone of skin and some scars yes ,but, outworn armours i dont think .
Its known that, for the new recruits with their new armours, the chance of surviving their first battles was to low,so for the veterans in the end of the battles they would have prioritie to get some new armour pieces from the newbs soldiers.
Not all we see in the cartoon books and moovies is real.

For me it´d be just fine a 20 units per stack, as lons as there are 500 soldiers per unit.

    Wouldn´t that be analing epic?

Can't see any reason not to put this feature in. I've always wanted my troops away on campaigns to have a certain grizzled look about them, battered shields and well-used armor. And of course, gruff beards.

Yeah it would be cool, but unrealistic having a whole cohort wearing those scars etc. There isn't a cohort of which all soldiers survived and all became veterans, of course they are replaced by others. So maybe there are "elite-troups", in which for example most or many units have these "veteran-looking".
