Default Imamate of Oman - tips?

So I've decided to start a new campaign with this faction since I liked their small, isolated position. Using Gamegeeks' EDU, I find it quite challenging to maintain a steady economy. I've taken 2 rebel provinces in the area with my starting army and gradually disbanded most of it once public order had been established. Now I'm at turn 12, upgrading my towns and buildings, not thinking about conquering any neighbouring provinces since raising even a half stack army would bring me to debt in no time. Am I doing well so far? Does anyone have any tips to improve my gameplay?

Should also note that I've converted my capital to a town right from the start, and that I'm playing on M/VH settings.

    Thanks in advance.

Focus on conquering all of Arabia, but be careful, if you conquer the region that neighbors the Abassids. As soon as your borders touch the Abbasids will start to attack you. Your main goal should be to get some armies into the Yemeni area. Conquer as much of Arabia as you can without having your borders touch either the Abassids or Ayyubids. Take some men out to sea and take the Socotra Island and the horn of Africa, the are some nice Ivory resources there that can help out a lot. I suppose another strategy would be to cross the Gulf of Oman, or the Persian Gulf into all those rebel regions and take as much regions as you can their until you come to any other factions borders.

Given Oman's position you can take your time. I think you start at war with the Abassids but like I said they won't attack(on land) until your borders touch. Grow your economy and hope by the time your ready to expand that the Romans haven't already won(that happened to me)

Thanks for your reply. I'll see to conquering Socotra once I've built up my existing towns and recruited a sizable army.

Do you also have advice on fighting the Abassids once I've hit their borders? As in, which troop types to use, tactics etc. I'm now getting very fond of the Azd infantry + Arab archers/infantry + Arab lancer combinations, perhaps a bit too fond.

That I cannot help you with I almost lost my war with the Abbasids. They were about to start invading into my capital region, but luckily for me the Romans invaded Mesopotamia and that drew the Abbasid armies back and I was slowly able to retake my lost land.
