    Default Best Defence Empire?

Oh, i'm currently playing as Germania and had it going good for awhile until rome came up and now im surrounded by Rome, Gual, Dacia, Epirus, Sythia, and MAcidonia is coming up on me. My main force is in England taking the whole Brittish island and Ireland. I have no bif army that can deal with the romans on my Mainland area, and i can't build one because my economy is trash except on my few settlements that are on a far away island that ill never get those troops to my mainland intime to save myself.

So, because of this, i was wondering if anyone could help me find a very good defencive faction to play as. I've already played as Egypt.

Rome is easily defended. And in my Greek campaign after taking the greek peninsula pretty much no one can attack me besides rome from the left.

as you can tell the barbarian factions are not defensive... they must attack everywhere to stay alive... i think th ebest defense faction is probably greece... the only faction they are gonna fight is the macedonians but if you ask for an alliance they will accept it and you will have an extra few turns to build up your army + build up your economy... also once you take corinth you can set up a fort on the thin peace of land next to athens and garrison a few men in there preferably spartans to protect that pass... then while that happens you can sail down to egypt and take cities there...

Ok, thanks guys, ill try Greece next.

Also, is there anyway to edit a file so that that one city on Sicily is Greek again? I really liked having that in the original game.

rome is probably the most secure, majority of its provinces are not nextdoor to any rival faction, and once u take up to the alps, your empire can be easily defended.

them and the greeks/macedon, after the usual fighting that occurs between the two, one or the other always ends up dominant (its a deathmatch), again its mostly surrounded by sea and not usually attacked by enemy factions - and the balkans make defending quite easy.

Baktria also start off in a secluded position, the seluecids are usually battling elsewhere so you can quietly expand on the rebel provinces around you and grow relatively strong.

Or you could blitz the poorly defended provinces under Seleucid control, and take out Parthia before they become a significant threat to your faction. Basicly you will not be confronted by a large army for many decades while you are blitzing the east, so you will have plenty of time to built up your defenses, plus the huge distances acts like a extension of your territorial defense - I usally use horse archer armies to scout for enemy movements, and have no ploblems destroying the slow and immobile infantry armies... Personally I also believe that Baktria offers the best chance at recreating the Alexandrian Empire, because all you need is to go west - which is easy with Horse/elephant armies. And by the time you reach Seleucia you will be able to field exellent phalanx armies with gold chevron horse archery support which is simply owning the hell out of the computer.

Rome is THE best faction to use if you want to defend. there are only 2 land ares that an enemy can invade. Sicily and gaul. If you gain control of even half of sicily you can keep carthage at bay. If you take the alps from gaul you can hold them there as well. Rome becomes significantly rich after a short time so they can keep pumping out strong armies.

I tried Rome, but Epiuse stared off with a few units of elephants ans like 2 full stacks of superior infantry. All my main cities were also in debt. I hate Epirus starting with southern Italy.

hmm well i made alliances on my campaign with most people, epirus joined the fight against macedon with greece in my one. Always make as many alliances as possible at the begining of the game.
You may also need to revise what you build in your cities at the start if you go in debt so much - Some cities have a debt figure merely because of the amount of soldiers they are supporting, if its a large debt on many of the cities you have too many armies.
