    Default "RPG-Like" Total Wargame?

    Hey guys,

I always had an idea of a strategy game, which begins as an RPG. There you would for example play a single Roman legionnaire without any command (so far no strategy game) but only fight directly (so you have, like in an RPG or Adventure direkt control of your (and only your) figure and fight like in those games). In this cases you have to obey to the orders of your direct commander (centurion or something). For example if he tells: "all go back" or "all attack" you have to follow this instruction, even if you want to "fight furthermore".

By fighting some battles like this somewhen you would be advanced to a Decurion and get command over 10 units. You still play a single character (your former one) but can give simple commands like "go back" or "attack here" or "follow me". But you also have to obey to next higher rank commander, which by this has still indirect control of "your" troops.

So like this your career would go up and up, depending on how high your rank is, it turns more and more into a strategy game. At some point you control the battlefield from the classical view like in every TW games so far, because you are a general or maybe the leader of your faction (where you have total control).

Although this of course would be a ton of work for the developers (especially when you can "roleplay" furthermore between fights, for example marrying or making friends (pretty bad example but you know what I mean ) I think this could be a VERY cool and fascinating game.

What do you think of such an idea? Of yourse leaving beside the technical and other problems beside (maybe bad overview, hard to command large troops in specific cases, the question what happens if your character is dead or something).

Ever try the Mount and Blade series? Start off as a single guy who you have full control of, recruit soldiers/hire mercenaries, fight for a nation (or start one when your army is big enough to take over a city), and you have limited control of your soldiers during the battles. There's "Warband" for fictional medieval style gameplay and there's "Fire and Sword" for 16th century warfare set in eastern Europe and Russia.

No but I watched some videos and heard about it. Yes, it seems to be the closest right now. But this feature in a huge Creative Assembly wargame would be awesome
