    Default I have a question...Important one

What will you all moderatoers and testers do when Rome total war 2 will be launched?
It will be in October 2013

Will you continue and rework all of the rome total war 2?I would really like that...cause i can se from now that the curent rome total war 2 map doesnt have all the settlements.Hope you guys wil get some aproval from changing the game and making it a better one.Or maybe you can send a letter and ask for some cooperation with the team that works on the game.Trust me..from what i saw rome total war simple with Surrectum mod makes it 90% more better.Without this mod rome total war I is verry bad, and i wont bother to play it ever if i dont download and instal Surrectum 2.

Please answere i am really interested in what you guys will do for the future

I'm guessing most will play Rome 2, from there who knows.

From what's been tentatively mentioned already - and whilst I don't consider myself a formal 'modder' member of the Team yet....

    - It seems likely that Rome2 will not be modificable at all, or perhaps only very slightly
    - It seems very likely that Rome2 will be very commercial, with all that entails, and much more like '300' and 'Rome' & 'Spartacus' and therefore have no interest in anything approaching 'realism'

    - Which means that there may certainly be interest in a v2.7 for people who want a better simulation, even though the engine is past its sell by date

If the first premise isn't entirely accurate, then it will be interesting to what the art of the possible might be. The halcyon days of modifiable text files, however, are unlikely to be there - but we can still hope.

I, more than most, would be extremely happy to be wrong - but I am a realist as well as a cynic. A truly realistic simulation wouldn't pander enough to the vast majority of today's 'gamers' to make sufficient money.

Until now most TW games were unplayable without nodding. So Rome II probably will go same routine.
If Rome II will be unmodable also, you know the answer ...

That's a bit of an overstatement. Every vanilla game has had its problems, but none were unplayable. Even Empire was playable at the start it just had a hell load of bugs that limited gameplay for many. Mods are not necessarily better, they just allow everyone to enjoy the game they want to enjoy it.

I think he means that unmodded TW games are not very enjoyable. I agree with him. With the exception of the original Shogun, every TW game has come with a bevy of imbalances and shortcomings. From RTW onward---I caught on to RTR very early on in its existence---I have never played a Total War game for any substantial period of time without a major mod installed.

RTW is really a case in point. It's awful without an extensive mod in place---that is, unless you love ridiculous snowball expansion, battles that last only three minutes, a bevy of ludicrous units (wardogs, flaming pigs, head hurlers, etc.), completely apocryphal factions, a horrific AI, and a host of other historical inaccuracies and gameplay deficiencies.

Then like me you're probably not going to really enjoy Rome2 - the one thing I've been expecting given that we'll now have integrated naval battles is a belief that every engine fired Greek Fire - there'll be fireballs everywhere - whereas every sailor knows that fire and wooden ships don't mix well.

Oh yes. Hehe. I wouldn't buy it too. I don't really like the overall design of the game. Okay, some things are really cool (soldier POV, sea battles, bird perspective, emotions...) but I can't get the right feeling for it. I prefer RSII more. Looks so beautiful. And I saw what specs do you need... 30 GB disk space! Are they crazy!!?? The Shogun 2 Gold Edition has feed 24 GB memory, but this has 3 games plus bonus packs. Rome 2 is only one game! I don't have enough space anymore... Well, I play only RSII. That makes me happy...

I was expecting the same kind of "moddability" in RTW 2.......why do u people believe it wont be like that?

It seems RII is based on Shogun II engine, so modding is limited.
It seems RII will be released in parts (DLC) to bring more money for company - modding will be restricted during that phase (who needs DLC, when mods gives the same content for free?)
It seems RII will be packed with action (Total War: Rome II - Battle of Teutoburg Forest Walkthrough video).

All of that doesn't seems like a good successor for Roma Surrecta mod

Have to say that I think Rome2 will follow Empire and will need all the disk space it can find including having to verify with a server.
Empire was a very poor game, imo !
These mods are absolutely fantastic, have played many many of them and will continue to even after Rome2 has been released.
Personally I will give Rome2 a miss and stick with the mods.
Just my view on things .

I'll most likely try Rome2, but only after about a year. Time enough to get some decent reviews for it, patches to fix to likely bugs and at the same time long enough for any DLCs to be released (I still hope that's a false rumor).
I do believe than when it is released many RTW players would move to it and then frustrated over bugs and bad parts will make a come back to RS2. It happened before, when ETW was released and people made a come back to MTW2 in force. RS2 is the best thing there is for RTW, unless one likes to play the BI time period, which unfortunately is not that modded at all.

I'll still play RS2 after Rome 2 comes out. I tend to play the game in cycles, switching from each of the total war series every few months. I see no reason to abandon RS2 when Rome 2 comes out.

The TW people in general most likely made a 'kind mistake' when RTW\BI|Alex were written. The software technology of the time was very 'open', and the unmodded version of RTW was very compatible with the low power machines of the day. But as time has passed, the way to write software for games, and the technology itself, have changed a ton. Unfortunately, that meant that software was written in less mod-friendly code, and, because of the intense competition in the gaming world, a lot of focus has been put on making games and game content very proprietary. We are all just the little fishes in an ocean of sharks competing for our attention and money, and few are willing to really 'serve' the diehard gamers with anything other than what 'we' (the creators) are willing to give you. I know that sounds pretty fatalistic....but my observation of CA as they have released new games over the last few years is that they are just throwing stuff 'out there' hoping people like it and buy it a lot. If they don't...on to the next offering.

It's interesting to note that in many stores you can still buy RTW\BI.....but Empire and Napoleon are nowhere to be found. I really think it's a function of just abandoning a game for another...hyping the crap out of it, and then hoping people buy it based on the hype. Not necessarily the content.

I'm not saying that Rome II will be a load of crap. From what I've heard and seen, it will probably be a lot better than RTW was in its Vanilla state....and it could well be a nice game overall. But let's face it, these gaming companies are no better than Hollywood. They tend towards bravado and bluster......eye candy and things to impress you visually, even better mechanics and more developed simulations. That's ok....it's what they do. But as for real content? Look at RTW as it was out of the box. Three Roman families? A united Greek faction? Barbarians represented as undeveloped, smelly pigs? The wholly un-godly Egyptian joke of a faction that was 2000 years or more out of place!!!?? I mean, you couldn't get more unhistorical even if you were trying to do it on purpose! And yet, people have loved this game, like myself, because it is a good 'foundation' for better content and innovation. And when you're dealing with a historical situation, real-time strategy, battlefield tactics and the like...people want to be able to modify and adjust things, improve or remove......in otherwords, mod the bloody game. These are not mindless 1st person shooter games where you spend an hour or two killing stuff and shooting up furniture and wooden boxes for the pleasure of it. Rather, these are games played by thinking people who are more into the challenges of economics and battle tactics...and yes, just plain historical information and appreciation. And I have believed for a long time that CA's approach to their buyers is all wrong. RTW still sells. M2TW still sells. But the later offerings? I don't know. They seem to flash on the shelves and then disappear. What does this tell you CA? It tells me that your games may be good or bad....but nevertheless you have removed the 'mechanism' from them that made them sell-able long after they're initial release. Modability.

I never got the chance to play RS2 as I abandoned RTW once Empire came out, abandoned Empire when NTW, NTW when Shogun 2 (though have gone back to it recently as Napoleonic Era is my favorite) came out etc.. but it has always been pulling at me. Was really hoping to see RS2 for RTW2, from the statements in this thread though I am lead to believe that there will be no attempt on a Roma Surrectum for RTW2. Is this correct?
