Hey guys, I assaulted a Seleucid (large) town (after they backstabbed me btw) that had a unit of cataphract elephants in it and 3 other random units. I attacked it with a vetted unit of thorakitai argyraspides (who completely rolled the enemy infantry, my darlings), two units of 4-experience slingers and a unit of 4-experience archers, some javelin cavalry, a family member (Pergamon) and a 3-exp unit of imitation legionaries. Also there were two units of double upgraded levy pikemen. At one point, there was a unit and the unit of elephants left, and I marched down one of the streets to the town square. Thusly arrayed were my forces: the imitation legionaries in front, fire at will enabled, behind them the thorakitai argyraspides (TA in short), behind which came the three units of veteran missile troops, a unit of levy pikemen and the general. Then... the elephants charged.
Well, they didn't really charge (I'm not sure the AI even knows how to do that), but I was prepared for this. The elephants took a volley of javelins from the legionaries, and then a volley from the TA. None died. I was still unworried at this point, I thought, 'Well, they do have 15 hitpoints after all. I'll start shooting them with fire arrows and two unit's worth of sling bullets (which are AP)', which I prompty proceeded with. Not much happened for a while. Then, my legionaries start dropping like crazy. Literally dozens of them die in 5 seconds or so. This sets off my alarm clocks, obviously. I proceed to advance my TA, having complete confidence in their abilities. When they begin to drop as well, I inspect the unit of elephants closer. To my immense horror, none of them has died yet! Oh god. A unit of pikemen goes next, with me practically in tears over the demise of my favourite legion (the thorakites). When the pikemen are killed too, I decide to retreat, as I have no more infantry to throw at these monsters. All my missile units have used almost all their ammo, and still there are zero elephant casualties.
What I wanted to ask is; is this how it's supposed to work? I really have absolutely no idea how to kill these guys, and I hope someone may be able to give me a hint. Also, if this is a glitch somehow, I'd like to know, so I can reload before the battle so I don't have to lose my beloved legions.
Cheers!
