THE best faction for a trading campaign

which faction in either ss or vanilla is the best for a trading campaign, my aim is to make a pile of money. Also what difficulty is the best.

But that is for kittens !Try M/M!
With .....Venice, Milan or Portugal. This is historical that they had a lot of money.
But in games, the faction YOU play has the most money!

I´d say go with the Moors or Egypt if the only goal is to make as much Money as possible - they´re both peripheral factions (and hence not surrounded by potential enemies) with Close access to very lucrative resource tiles (gold/ivory and Spices/ivory respectively) and trade routes (with minimal expansion you can set up so as to gain large amounts of cash by trading with distant factions across the Mediterranean).

There are obviously other factions with easy access to highly lucrative trade possibilities - England (if you take all of the British isles), Spain/Portugal (if take all of Iberia) or Venice/Milan/Sicily/the Holy Roman Empire (if you take all the five regions in northern Italy) - but they all have to challenge other factions to get there, and are also more at risk of being dragged into a lot of wars, since they have more neighbours.

Well since, no matter what you do, you can't avoid having battles (even if only against rebels) the best is always VH/VH, otheriwise the AI doesn't try to outflank you in battles. I've always been able to make a pile of money even on VH anyway, though maybe it takes a little longer than one easier settings.
