Default where the hell all these stacks come from?

playing hre i know its tough but jesus christ

First poland attacks me out of no where like wtf? i dominate them and i was makin 10k+ a turn and had 60k+

i LOST ALL of that recruiting merc's all over because it just snowballed out of control and i went into a state of constant war

after beating back poland milan decides to attack berns. I beat them back f,rance decides to attack metz i beat them back , norway decides to attack hamburg heroic victory, them out of there..... Danish decide to join the fray i raged and sent my king all the way taking 3-4 of their cities wiping them out nearly THEN RUSSIA attacks me russia? really? out of no where to.

war with 6-8 people and the pope decides herpherp ima call a crusade i couldn't even ignore it because my crosses were low.

i got into a full blown war with milan killing the doge his hier and 3 other full stacks. they only have 3 cities. 2 turns later 2 full stacks with new doge and heir comes........ i went from trustworthy to untrustworthy from executing everyone because they kept coming back 2 turns later with full stacks.

/END RANT i had to start a new game because it got out of hand i was going into debt recruiting merc's -.-

i was at war on 3 fronts from turn 11 all the way to turn 60 with maybe 2 allies

Why does the ai come back after you dominate their armys? having my gothic knights attacked by urban mils every 1-2 turn just got annoying i had full gold stacks of knights due to this ******** but couldn't use them besides defending on every front.

You were too powerful, its normal for the AI to pile on you because you're too strong, Also the fact that you were excomd made you an excelent target for any catholic neighbors because they dont get any warnings from the Pope to stop and they can call crusades on you(which they did). This is the fate of HRE most of the time, just deal with it and recruit your own troops instead of mercs.

Yeah, the AI gets full stacks a little easier than you do, family members appearing out of thin air and money grows on trees for them.

He didn't say he was excommunicated but that he wasn't very high on papal favour so he had to go on crusade.

Just for the record "Da Papa" loves da coin, so bribery can max out those crosses even when you are excommunicated. Bribery can also gain you an alliance with the Pope. Bribery over time that is. Now also please bear in mind that the level setting you play at also dictate the amount of goodies that the AI gets.{ M/M-VH/VH} Also you might consider playing modds like Stainless Steel, Brocken Crescent, and Third Age once youre bored beating up the original MTW II.

    Hope that helps...

Considering that Norway attacked him, I'd guess he isn't exactly playing the original M2TW. Milan rather than Genoa rules out SS. (I also doubt Third Age and Broken Crescent ). I'm thinking KGCM?

Where is that image from? And why is the Bishop with lots of parchment pieces glued with wax to his armour? It completely ruined the image, it could be great without that codswallop.

How did he edit his double post with only 3 posts?
    SPAMMARRRRR DETECTED!

On-Topic: As Maklodes pointed, you are playing a mod. In mods, mostly, you are supposed to turtle, or in other words go slow. You had big money, could have secured some alliances with it. Try to fight only in one front. Try to make your enemies (using all the cash you kept in your trasuries) attack your other enemies. AI in most mods don't even need money, so don't fear they will use it to build stacks (they would get them by a script anyway)

I've had situations like this (backstabbing allies, war randomly declared by minor stacks attacking full garrisons etc), but it wasn't so severe with me. My method was to push out in one direction, usually towards a coast, while turtling everywhere else. Then I'd stop advancing and push in another direction, using my spy network to show me where weak areas were. I also used assassins to cause as much trouble as possible, and to deal with grumpy popes.

I'd also use my spies to see where an enemy faction had it's main unit production settlements, then plan to take them.

It was always alot of work, and alot of fun, but with careful planning and expansion it paid off.

From what the TC posted, it looks like they overexpanded. Areas with settlements in close proximity (northern Italy, central Germany) are excellent for defending. You can move units around between the garrisons in one or two turns, which can be all it takes to disuade an incoming enemy stack.

Success in war isn't just about knowing when to attack. It's also about knowing when to retreat.
