Default Screw Rome, Byzantium all the way!

If you compare ancient decadent Rome with the glory of the Byzantine Empire you can not help but asking yourself this question, why does Rome get all the glory and games when it was clearly inferior to the might of the Byzantine Empire in every way? Whilst Rome was crumbling into pieces the Byzantine Empire did the impossible, they sent a small force to Africa, Italy and Spain and in a few years almost restored all the key territories of the Roman Empire withing the reign of a single Emperor! All acheivements of the Romans pale in comparison to this, so perhaps it is time for CA to shelve Rome 2 and make a game about the early 6th century AD Byzantine Empire instead? Not to mention that the Byzantine Empire was also morally superior to the evil and decadent Romans, just read how they fought their wars:
Emperors, generals and military theorists alike found war to be a failing of governance and political relations, to be avoided whenever possible. Only wars waged defensively or to avenge a wrong could in any sense be considered just, and in such cases the Byzantines felt that God would protect them.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_army

Also a quote from a documentary I can not find right now:
The Byzantine Empire was like the Roman Empire, but bigger and better!

Thing is tst you can't love Byzantium without loving it's antique Roman history and vice versa.

I'm not defending the western Romans. Just pointing out that the Byzantines were not better than every other civilization in antiquity.

IMHO, Rome, China & pre-Islamic Iran are ancient history's "Big Three". Each one of them deserves to have its own TW title.

That should shut the OP up.

Even if the Byzantine Empire managed to acquire the territories you described, it was due to the resources at its disposal in the form of the Eastern Roman Empire, which was already a considerable territorial expanse. Rome managed to conquer swathes of Europe, Africa and Asia Minor and Palestine all from its humble beginnings as a city state, I would personally say a more considerable achievement than that of the Byzantine Empire, which of course originated from the Romans themselves, not to mention the endless years of decline after those territorial gains.

....? They were the SAME empire....The "Byzantines" were the eastern half of the roman empire. And yes, of the two, the full Roman empire was stronger because it was the full roman empire! It had more soldiers, cash, and land because it was both halves of the empire rather than just the eastern half. This is a stupid argument.

Our enemy is ready. His full strength gathered. Not only Germans, but Greeks as well. Legions of Byzantines from the south. Mercenaries from the North African coast. All will answer the anti-Romans' call.

You do know they were the Roman Empire, right?

When the Rome Empire in the West fell the one in the east continued until 1453... or 1204 if you consider the capture of constantinople the end of the empire.

Byzantine is a fake name. It was technically the Roman Empire until it fell.

I know that actually, but I used the word Byzantine to be as clear as I could be.

Apart from the fact thay it was hellenized, Greek-speaking, Christian Orthodox and nothing like the Roman Republic or Imperial Rome. The only trace of Rome left in it by the 9th cenury was the legal literature, which was written in Latin.

This argument is flawed and pointless.

Doesnt matter... There is a direct line from the Roman Empire in Italy to the one in the east. Even if its official language changes 200 years after the western half fell it doesnt change anything. For the most part the entire eastern half was hellenized and greek speaking since Julius Caesars time. So none of that changed. Only thing that changed was the official language during Heraclius reign. Latin was still used in some cases though but that is irrelevant.

In 450 whatever there were two ROMAN EMPIRES. The Latin speaking in the West and the Greek speaking in the East. By 480 there was only one Roman Empire left. Can you guess which one?

The Roman Empire was an Evolution. It wasnt some static thing.

Byzantine Empire was just an extension of the Roman Empire. Get a proper education.

Yeah the fact that there would be no Byzantine Empire without the Roman Empire kinda destroys your argument.

The fact that some if not most of you are going along with this means he wins.
