If you compare ancient decadent Rome with the glory of the Byzantine Empire you can not help but asking yourself this question, why does Rome get all the glory and games when it was clearly inferior to the might of the Byzantine Empire in every way? Whilst Rome was crumbling into pieces the Byzantine Empire did the impossible, they sent a small force to Africa, Italy and Spain and in a few years almost restored all the key territories of the Roman Empire withing the reign of a single Emperor! All acheivements of the Romans pale in comparison to this, so perhaps it is time for CA to shelve Rome 2 and make a game about the early 6th century AD Byzantine Empire instead? Not to mention that the Byzantine Empire was also morally superior to the evil and decadent Romans, just read how they fought their wars:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_armyEmperors, generals and military theorists alike found war to be a failing of governance and political relations, to be avoided whenever possible. Only wars waged defensively or to avenge a wrong could in any sense be considered just, and in such cases the Byzantines felt that God would protect them.
Also a quote from a documentary I can not find right now:
The Byzantine Empire was like the Roman Empire, but bigger and better!
