    Default Hastati, Principes and Triarii

I have this little idea, but I doubt it will be in the game:

As the early Roman Republic, you have an infantry based army with Hastati, Principes and Triarii.
These soldiers where ordened by age and exp. , so I hope they will implement the kind of system where the Roman faction can only train Hastati, and after a certain number of years and won battles they transform into Pricipes and after another certain numbers of years( no more won battled because they already gained exp so,...) they finally transform into Triarii. And the further they proceed in this process, the stronger they get, and with each upgrade, they get bonus points. In this way it is really realistic, but it would also be bad for the variety of the Roman faction and be less interesting for some people.

So what do you guys think of this?
(If there are any mistakes in the text, don't hate me, i'm only 14 years old and i'm dutch a,d i've only had english for 2 years on school)

Actually, I'm pretty sure the Triarii were just richer than Hastati and Principes. They could afford the best gear, pretty sure it had nothing to do with experience, just money, correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it was both money and experience.
Triarii and principes were richer than Hastati but the Triarii were also older .

I think when they got older they also got richer and because, correct me if i'm wrong, every roman had to do his duty in the army and they gained exp so it had to do with both I think, in wikipedia I find both elements.

You shouldn't be able to recruit just hastati, that's like saying you start with the males being only 18-26 years old

Roman infantry were sorted into classes based on wealth in the Camilan era and then by experience under the Polybian system.

Pretty sure that by the start of the Rome 2 campaign (assuming it starts at/during the 2nd punic war) that the Hastati-Principes-Triarii system broke down to a point where although there was still experience related rankings, most of the soldiers were just that, soldiers, no segregation. Hell, the Roman Republic began to use freed slaves in their armies towards the end of the war.

So by that logic i guess all we will be recruiting is Legionaries as a standard unit, with sub sections incorporated into the unit possibly?

Although i may be talking complete crap here as well i don't know, but my tired mind informs me that these facts are somewhat correct Please correct me if i'm misinformed!

You are right, but I believe it starts in the 270's, not the second punic war.

I am certainly against that for whatever reasons. But I do hope that pre marian units will be automatically transformed into marian units once it happened, either gradually or automatically. I certainly hate the RTW style where I'm no longer be able to recruit/retrain pre marian units. With the auto retrain concept for Rome II it will be strange if I still have Hastatis fighting along my Eagle Cohorts.

I think it would be cool to have an old jewel of an army left over after the marian reforms. Although it might not make sense.

Well I hope we can train Hastati, Principes and Triarii from the beginning of our campaigns.
Like in the various RTW-Mods where you got stronger versions later on due to a Reform. And a second reform allows Cohorts later one. Would be better than vanilla-RTW style with only Hastati available, on the next barrack-level Principes and so on. You never used a mixed force of all three types this way.

Yeah, this was just an idea, like I said it would be bad for variety.
But this is only my opinion, so no one cares
