Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?
As the title says, I am looking for a TW title for summer and i already have S2 and FOTS and enjoyed them alot. Wondering whether to get M2 for the Third Age mod, how good is it? I am a big fan of LOTR, but obviously as i have only played the most recent TW games, how much of a step back would it be? Would the quality of the mod compensate for it?

Worth every penny, plus the fact that it unlocks the door to all the other great MTW II mods. Third Age by itself puts many a $60.00US game I've bought to shame. Also don't forget all the great sub-mods available for Third Age and the other MTW II mods.

P.S: You need M2TW AND Kingdoms expansion to play TATW, just to clarify things
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..

Well pandachief, to put this simply. Everytime I play my pants come off. And no this isn't to scare you. Its just soooo good. Some people rot in their rooms for three weeks the first time they get the TATW. I've seen it happen with my own eyes.
Re: Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?
Totally worth it. Not only for TATW but for all other mods. If you are into fantasy mods my 3 favorite are TATW, CoW and Hyrule total war. If you are into historical mods there are tons of mods, featuring different ages and different parts of the world.

You'll appreciate that TATW is much more challenging and has a forum on this site full of other users ready to help out with the simplest to the most drastic cases of strategy and tech issues. You can't really play TATW without coming back to this part of the forum; there are submods, guides, FAQs, everything you can think of

Is there a MP for this mod?
Cant wait now! Got exams but it should come when the 1st half of exams finishes and I will have a week off which I can revise and play a bit.
It`s hell of an STEAM installation for this mod, you need to know few things BEFORE starting with it:
1. Do not use the internet while downloading TATW files, you can get corrupt download.
2. Do not put TATW Installers into your M2TW folder. Keep them somewhere els on your hard drive.
3. If you have Windows 7, 8, or VISTA, be sure to edit the security for your main M2TW folder BEFORE installing TATW.
4. STEAM Installation of TATW is different than non steam, there are more ways to do this, and, I don`t want to self promote myself , but, you can check this Thread with pictures for more info.
The steps you need to do are quite simple:
1. Edit the security.
2. Use on of the methods for steam installation, if you use the method with renaming one of your Kingdoms campaigns, then, follow the steps in the pictures ( make a new folder outside of your main M2TW folder, install TATW in it, copy paste the folder`s content into your M2TW/mods folder as instructed in the pictures, rename one of your ORIGINAL Kingdoms campaigns to something els, and rename your Third_Age_3 folder to the name of that Kingdoms campaign you just renamed. )

Re: Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?
I've been playing this and Stainless Steel for years; still not tired of it.
The way all of these hosted mods are detailed really makes me sad that it's not financially feasible for professional developers to put this much time and effort into a game, because after years and updates, this feels like an entirely new game all it's own.
Only when your council asks you to to start trading with Mordor or the Elves decide to take over the Misty Mountains and Moria do you realize that this is simply a mod cultivated over years by people who have no financial stake into it's creation but heart, frustrated breakthroughs, visual artistry from a slew of artists, and time. Sooooo much time.
I paid 20$ for this version and I'm sure people who paid full price would all agree that this mod is huge in it's capacity to stand alone and feel like a game you bought at Gamestop. Buying this game is like getting a few games for the price of one.

How am i supposed to download the files without internet?
Re: Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?
^ Don't start with Gondor, you would probably be destroyed. I would recommend an easy faction like Harad or the High Elves. Rohan and Rhun also might be a good choice.
Re: Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?
There is a simple way to get a very good impression of the game: watch some let's play Third Age episodes on youtube. You can't get no better introduction into the game than this. As there are whole campaign playthroughs on youtube, you can watch episodes from early game, midgame and endgame to see what's it all about. Myself I bought M2 only for this mod. Never touched the original game, just played TATW. It's great!
Re: Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?
A good place to learn the ropes is vanilla Rohan. Balanced roster, you fight both Isengard and Mordor with maybe some Orcs of the Misty Mountains, stable economy, easy starting place. Normally I would also suggest Rhun, but there is a 25% chance Dale and Dwarves will double team and crush you
Re: Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?
Its worth it every penny M2 + Kingdoms Expansions is like 10$ or 15$ right now. You wont be disappointed TATW is one of the best Mods for M2 and besides you can also play other great M2 Mods like Stainless Steel, Broken Crescent ect ect.
