Default Rome 2 pre-orders six times higher than Shogun 2

    http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/17/tota...sales-in-2012/

SEGA has announced that Total War: Rome 2 is the fastest pre-ordered Total War game to date, with over six times the number of pre-orders its first official week compared to Shogun 2. The Collector’s Edition has also pre-ordered well, with over half the available copies already sold out in the US. The firm also said Total War sales hit 2 million last year “without a major release,” to support the series. Those who pre-order the strategy title get the first DLC, The Greek States Culture Pack, free on the day of release. Rome 2 is out September 3.
It's good to hear Rome 2 is already doing well for CA. I think the DLC is a big factor here, people seem to love the Greek factions.

I really love the TW franchise and CA but I grow more and more displeased by this preorder cash cow and SEGA's marketing policy for using a game I love to make more money so I hope this turns out to be an Empire at release just to be able to say "I told you so."

Looks promising and more will come after CA has released more information about naval, campaign map and more updates for game.

like previous member told: Hopefully we will not see another broken empire total war.

The odds of that are pretty slim since I think the worst case scenario for Rome 2 is that it is a reskinned Shogun 2. Since Shogun 2 is the starting point in terms of the engine and fighting mechanics, the laziest and worst game they could make would be units that are barely different then similar Shogun ones. That seems very unlikely, and since CA has mostly been very good at releasing good games, there is no real reason to doubt them now.

Sure, its possible they will totally drop the ball, but they really would have to work hard to do so this time.

Now that you've got the cash, you better show us the goods or else it's the paddle for you.

Pretty sure it has something to do with this thing called "Greek Culture Pack."
    No surprises here.
    SEGA is EA in disguise.

um ok but SEGA is not running the show here, it is CA.
despite SEGA owning CA I doubt it would interfere with a company that is already incredibly successful (at this point the only cash cow sega has)

Please, don't put words in peoples mouths. SEGA is better than EA with DLC. Period.

The problem is that SEGA is involved. They control the purse strings. When they supply a budget they can tell a company like CA what to do with it. Like splitting it up so there's a budget for the main game and DLC.

    Dan,

I agree, i dont think Sega did anything to really upset their fanbase with the Pontus and greek dlc. Personally this is the best marketing campaign ive ever seen for a game. Im more excited about this game then anything in the past and im a loyal pc gamer for over 15 years. This game gets me even more excited than when i watched the official trailer for skyrim in awe 10 times in a row. Which means a lot for me.

    Thumbs up Sega!!

Glad that it has reached this fantastic result. More money to CA/SEGA means better post release support (and maybe more free-DLC).
In order to celebrate this achievement they should thank us releasing more news
Disclaimer: the post above is way way prealpha, the final version will be way better than this.

Nah basic econ tells you that more pre-orders means we'll see more hype less substance before the game is released and more stuff sold separately at a premium -- i.e. high demand, for a product sight unseen will definitely make stuff more expensive. Quality also becomes a concern in the longer term.

Again, Huberto, there is zero evidence for this. Metro, Aliens, and Sim City would have been **** without this preorder hype. With Aliens, the subsidiary company misused the funds for that game. I think they used it for Borderlands which was far more successful.

Basically it was this, near enough all the money that went from Sega to Gearbox was used on Borderlands 2. Gearbox basically made a cash in game just to show Sega that yes they did what they were told but with minimal effort. As much as I lover borderlands, Gearbox will be getting a ton of black marks from publishers for a long time over this.
