    Default About modding this game

    Hello everyone,and good evening!

I'm pretty sure this one has been a really hot topic in here, but i'd like to ask it myself: Do you have any information about how moddable (Is that even a word?) this game will be? I've been eager to start my own project which i've been planning for months now,but i haven't yet decided whether i'll wait for rome 2 to come out,or use medieval instead.

Rome looks amazing, and as medieval 2 (even though it's amazing game) starts to get really outdated,i'd be more than happy to wait till september. But is it worth it?

I suggest that you wait for Rome 2 to see if we'll be able to mod it right away or not, wouldn't be a little bit sad to start on Medieval and develop a lot and then suddenly Rome 2 has the ability to be modded and you gotta re-do everything?

    Patience is virtue!

Yeah, I'm also anxiously waiting to begin my modding project 'til Rome 2 comes out. I wouldn't want to spend ages trying to figure out Shogun 2's modding capabilities if they end up making things easier in Rome.

Well, one fact is true about modding. Rome II uses the Warscape engine. The same engine Shogun 2 used...

Technically speaking, is possible that you might be able to mod Rome II with Shogun 2's Assembly Kit. Although i do believe the modding might be really limited the first few weeks. Some modders might still release some awesome mods despite the lack of proper tools though...

In Shogun 2 they can now mod the campaign map, as well as the campaign start positions/factions etc. Even create a new worldmap from scratch!

In a nutshell, they can do a lot of what was available in pre-Warscape times. However it is VERY hard, and much more time consuming than it was in the past. Therefore it will take MASSIVE effort for people to mod the game to as large a degree as can be seen with RTW1/M2TW. Although then again, Rome is IMMENSELY popular......

Is it just me or was there a lack of mods for TWS2 due to the fact that the era wasn't as popular as previous titles?

Pretty much, Shogun 2 is just too limited in scope, to make anything other than a Japanese mod you would have to change every aspect of the game, from models, animations, campaign map, audio, music, etc. Which would be an insane amount of work.

I am sure at some point we will see an official Assembly Kit being released for Rome 2, however, I doubt it will be for some time after its release. Until then, the community will likely make their own tools, such as a new pack file file manager, but real conversion mods with be limited until an official tool kit.

Nope. It's because modding warscape is obviously as not as easy as Rome engine. Who's to say that modding Shogun 2 should only be about Japan just like modding RTW should only be about Roman era.

Funny thing is from what I seen base on my limited experience of modding the games, RTW/M2TW is actually very limited in what can be modded especially AI (not even possible with RTW while limited in M2TW) but what can be modded is very easy to do that allows the possibility of many great mods for RTW/M2TW as we know.

Warscape however allowed much much more but modding the games itself is much much harder especially to those who's only familiar with text files and simple stuff like GIMP, Paint etc.

Let's just hope that the Assembly Kit for Rome II will come out much sooner rather than later. Even with the kit it takes a while to master it.

It would be nice if Rome II can be modded ?
Regarding lack of mods for Shogun 2 Dan I guess the mod tools welcome as they were came a little late for the small Shogun campaign.
Rome is going to be the big one at least in theory, Although as said before the Warscape games take a lot more programmer knowledge to mod.
I do not expect to see loads of mods like the first RTW come on stream.
Rather the mod groups will have to pool their skills into big teams of the best modder,s to produce the goods.
Expect 2 years before a major mod comes out.

I think that the biggest hurdle one would go through for trying to total convert Shogun 2 would be the Mo-cap animations. You can't exactly make a China mod or Song of Ice and Fire mod where the soldiers are using unorthodox and awkward looking Samurai moves and Katana slices. However, Seeing as Rome 2 will probably have a plethora of weapons and animations, such as two handed swords, pikes, spears, shorts words, stabbing Roman Gladius's, barbarian weapon animations that function as a Medieval swordsman might, different types of shields and such, I can see at least a few mods that could get more ambitious.

Considering that they gonna sell tons of DLC I bet that modding will be damn hard.
As a EB fan I must admit that I am only interesting in Rome II because I hope for some great mods.
If there wont be any I don't plan even getting this game.

DLC got nothing to do with modding being hard or not. If one does not know how to use notepad even modding original Rome will be very hard.
