Default CTD at the turn end

I've been playing as Macedon for a while and I only had a couple of crashes, which wasn't too annoying cause they were usually at the end of a turn or at the beginning of a battle, so I could just reload the autosave. Sadly, I can't play it anymore. The game crashes every time I click the end turn button. I haven't manually saved in a while, so I can't load an earlier save that's not too far away. I googled a bit, but I couldn't find anything that could help me. I'm using Rome Gold and I am playing it on Steam. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was dumb and I didn't read "Before you post an error" thread, so here are some details:
    I'm using Windows 7 (64 bit)
    Specs: AMD x4 955 @3,2 GHz, 8gb RAM, Nvidia 450gts (1gb).
I'm not sure what version of Rome I'm using, it should be the latest one since Steam auto-updates it.
I attached the picture of my video settings.
I can't find the save game. Folder "saves" that's in my Rome folder is empty. I don't know if the saves should be there. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me where they are. Sorry for the double post, but I couldn't edit the first one. Thanks

I read the words 'autosave' in my first post and groaned.

It's known that the game can corrupt the autosave. When this happens you've lost your campaign as you've only got a single save. You should also not Quicksave as it uses the same routine as Autosave and can, therefore, also corrupt a save game.

Go into your preferences.txt files and change AUTO_SAVE:TRUE to AUTO_SAVE:FALSE

The mantra for such an old game is: manually save regularly!

I usually save before and after each battle and every so many years. I name my saves like SPQR_560W, SPQR_560S etc. (so, faction, year, season)... If I have multiple saves I just start adding numbers to the end of the name. So - SPQR_560W_1, SPQR_560W_2, SPQR_560W_3.

I presume your Steam install is in the program files folders?

If that is the case Windows treats these folders as 'protected' and any file that can be changed (saves, preferences etc) will be in the 'virtual store' or 'appdata' area. The easiest way to start to find the right folder is by running %appdata% - also before you do that go into your folder options (Windows) and change the setting to 'show hidden files and folders' as the AppData folder is hidden.

I expect the folder to be called 'c:\Users\"windows account"\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War'. The Creative Assembly may be replaced with Sega - it depends on who the publisher is for your version.

Thanks for your answer, I'll keep all of that in mind when I start my next campaign. I'm really hoping I can do something about this campaign tho. I can't find the folder with my saves. The Creative Assembly folder in Roaming only contains 3 folders: Empire, Napoleon and Shogun 2. I don't have the folder "Sega" in Roaming. Can I do anything about this or should I just start a new campaign?

OK, I missed the bit about a Steam install.

It may be buried somewhere inside your '...\Steam\steamApps\common\The Creative Assembly' folder.

One way is to launch the game and do a manual save (name the file something unique). Then exit the game and use Windows search to find the file.....

The problem with an autosave is that you may not immediately find out that the save is corrupted (from my understanding) - so loading a campaign, manually saving the file should still lead to a corrupted campaign.

There's no "The Creative Assembly" folder inside my "Common" folder. I also tried naming it something unique and searching for it, but the search couldn't find anything. I really appreciate you taking time to try to help me, but you don't have to bother anymore. I'll just start a new campaign and I won't be so dumb to use the autosave. Again, I appreciate you trying to help me, thanks
