No unit card bar

Evening guys,

I've just installed TATW (CD format not Steam) and every time I play a battle/campaign the bottom half of the screen where the unit cards, minimap etc is, there is a white block which only shows some photos. Has anyone else had this and managed to fix it?

Hi there and welcome to TWC Forums! Does it happen in your M2TW too? And, what Windows do you have?

Just in the mod, I've got windows 7 (premium if that makes a difference?).

Go to your .../SEGA/Medieval II Total War folder, and open medieval2.preference. CFG file ( right mouse click on it and EDIT ):

Now find this and see does it look the same ( if not, change them to look the same ):

buttons = show
full_battle_HUD = 1
radar = show
show_tooltips = 1
unit_cards = show

After you are done with the changes, save the changes, and after that, right mouse click on this same medieval2.preference. CFG file, and go to Properties. At the bottom, check the box for Read-Only Attribute. Test does it work.

Just tried all that, still the same as before

Start your TATW game, and go to Options - Game Settings, if Minimal UI is checked, then, uncheck it.

If that doesn`t work, then it could be that you are having issues with Virtual Store.. and that means you will need to reinstall TATW.
If you reinstall, do it like this ( go here and check the installation pictures ):

1. Edit the Security for your main M2TW folder.

2. Unhide hidden folders, and in Virtual Store delete M2TW folder if you find it there.

3. Uninstall TATW using Start - Control Panel - Uninstall Program.

4. Delete manually Third_Age_3 folder in your .../Medieval II Total War/ mods folder.

5. Install All TATW Installers using the instructions there in pictures.

6. For battle crashes, disable daylight saving settings: go to Control Panel, Clock, Date and Time, Change the time zone, Change time zone, uncheck `Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Savings time`.

where is the virtual store? just unhidden files and cant see it

Just tried, still crashes

Go to your M2TW/mods/Third_Age_3/data folder, and delete two descr_geography_new files ( .db and. txt) . Do all battles crash or just some? What are your system specs?

Deleted files now works perfectly, will the files have to be deleted every time? Many thanks for your help

Nope, no need to do it twice. Enjoy playing TATW!

P.S: If you experience battle crash with reinforcement armies included on either side ( yours or the enemy`s ) there is a fix located here.
