Q. What is this?
This an Work-In-Progress proposal for an Role-Playing-Game set in Imperial China.
Q. What era of China is this and why?
At this time, we have it set right before the dawn of the Three Kingdoms Era, during the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the warlord-induced chaos that followed it.
We have chosen this date due to popularity evident in these two polls (
here and
here).
At later times or later "versions", a different era could be chosen; therefore, the naming of the RPG and it's fora would/will be generally accommodating for all of Imperial Chinese history.
Q. Will you be following Luo Guanzhong's novel Sān Guó Yǎn Yì or Chen Shou's more credible Sān Guó Zhì?
A mix of both.
It's really impossible to take entirely from one or the other, as well as other accounts.
So, you take from both to get a good, satisfying mix.
No magic or "Dong Zhuo throwing halberds at Lu Bu" though.
Q. I hate Dynasty Warriors. Why should I think this is any different/better?
We probably hate it more than you do, actually.
Chinese history is much more interesting and .... cultured .. than that.
Koei Co. makes Chinese (and Japanese) history look terrible to Western eyes.
Q. I don't know anything about Chinese History/Culture. Can/Should I still play?
**** Yeah. In fact, I order you to at least try it.
Q. What character(s) (types) are we playing?
Warlords, bureaucrats, and scholars, as well as generals and strategists and other "nobles";
Of course, although you could technically be any character, those would be the most interesting and relevant paths.
Q. Can we play historical characters?
That's pretty close to a no.
Although it pains us to do so, most historical characters like Liu Bei and Cao Cao will not exist (at least, not in their historical forms).
Feel free to try and emulate them with your own characters though!
Q. Can I play the Emperor? What about a Prime Minister or one of the Three Excellencies?
You cannot play any
Han Emperor, although I don't see a problem if one actually was able to name himself an emperor or even force the Han emperor to abdicate.
As for the high offices, that's a tough area: No, not at start. But say you were able to control the Emperor like Dong Zhuo, Li Jue, or Cao Cao, you would essentially have such status, although it wouldn't be quite the same.
Q. Can I play a Yellow Turban Leader?
Nope. But you can be some nameless member of the rebellion, if you're really into the color yellow.
Q. Who's making this?
Bastard Feudalism and
Lucius Malfoy.
We'd be happy to accept help from knowledgeable folk though.
Q. Why the name choice?
It is a WIP title, chosen by my own single opinion.
Other suggested titles include:
- All Under Heaven
- The Middle Kingdom
- The Mandate of Heaven
- The Ravages of Time
- The Book of Changes
Q. Can I be Lu Bu? OH! And Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi, as well as Cao Cao and Liu Bei?
You don't deserve a soul.
Actual content and information will be logged in future posts known as "Developer Diaries" done by either me or Lucius Malfoy.
Please, please, (no really, please) do not post questions asking about "reserving" or "claiming" characters or what characters are O.K. and what characters are not.
It only slows us down and gives us headache.
